I was trying to fold something similar to Christmas cubic box by Mélisande* (thanks for inspiration!) - I think this is almost the same as units used for the Christmas tree only with different final steps...

What I like a lot is that the box and the box lid have almost the same dimensions (difference is only 0.02 length of starting square, the lid is bigger).

The box is easy one made on 3x3 grid, maybe traditional?

Finally I could make a box opening of my Anubis doll by Black Box.

The first job was to oil all the bearings for the roller drawers, so they would open and close easily.

Coraline Gift Box Reveal (Part 1 / Teaser)

Here's a quick teaser-peek into the hand-made "Gift Box" I'd receive from the animation team behind CORALINE The Movie [tagged] directed by Henry Selick (Nightmare Before Christmas / James & The Giant Peach) based on a fairytale by Neil Gaiman.

Numbered 23 out of 50 existing boxes worldwide - this perhaps may be personally one of the more treasured and honored "gift" I've received thus far in 2008. Simple "Thank Yous" may not be good enough, I'm afraid. Will strive to process and upload full reveal pics before the year ends (and share my "manly joy" ... heh) ... Meanwhile, higher-res versions of this video can be found via my Flickr / Multiply / Vimeo / Facebook.

CORALINE: Official Movie Website (password: "BUTTONEYES"). Coraline premieres February 6th, 2009.

This is my newest (latest) camera. A Zeiss Ikon Baby Box, model Frontar. This camera was introduced in 1931 and takes up 127 roll film. It has a fixed focal distance and a shuter speeds of 1/25 or B. The wired frame indicater pushes down for storage and locks the shutter. To prevend you from accidentaly taking a picture. Originaly most prints would have been contact prints, so the pictures would be 3x4cm

I took this photo at sunset at Box Hill southern England. For some reason I think of the Shire (Lord of the Rings) when I see this photo.

This is a closeup of a recent Incense Burner and Storage Box I made.

The box itself is hollowed out from a small block of leftover walnut, while the lid is worked from an interesting piece of wavy-looking maple I had re-discovered in my workshop.

The trough you see here running up the middle of the lid is for any ashes that may drop off the incense stick while it's fuming away. (Check out other recent photos of mine to see how the incense stick is set up on the box.)

The curved stripes in the sliding lid of the box are very thinly cut strips of walnut and maple.

This box, and another very nearly just like it, is available for purchase in my online shop (smilemoon.etsy.com). Thank you so much for looking!

Actually, I made a large mistake!

I wanted to put this inner fabric on the purple box! I noticed it after I finished this box...

A post box on the side of the 'Rabbit Run' road from Telford to Wombourne in Shropshire (and Staffordshire respectively) UK. Locals will know it, others probably have their own 'Rabbit Runs'........anyway, I digress. I nearly got run over twice by passing cars when trying to get the right angle for the shot from a precarious footing on the roadside verge.

How do creative professionals who are paid to think outside the box express themselves? At Corey McPherson Nash, we do it inside the box—a shallow, glass-topped, wooden box, to be exact.

14 years ago we resuscitated the quaint craft of shadow-box making and turned it into a company ritual. The rules are simple: Don't go outside the box, and don't put anything living inside the box. But the object is ambitious: to provide a hands-on tutorial in Corey McPherson Nash's organizational culture. "Our basic operating principle is to define broad goals, supply a little structure, and then give people the freedom to do creative work."

With the shadow boxes, that principle has produced wildly diverse visions. Among the completed boxes: a vivid frightscape, complete with a crank for animating dancing-devil cutouts; a meditation on "what it could have been," featuring a loose marble and a list of design possibilities; and Tom Corey's own taxonomy of "bad seeds."

I am extremely excited about Coraline. I really really really wanted to receive an Other Mother box in the mail, but I didn't. So, I had to make my own. I'll be posting an Instructable on it soon.

Each year, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes invites over a hundred artists to create unique works of art using a wooden box.

Here are the inspiring artworks they created this year: they range in style from whimsical to poignant and thought-provoking. These photos were taken on closing day, when the gallery organized a live auction for each of this year’s 150 boxes. The proceeds support the gallery’s exhibits and community programs.

Two of the boxes were created by members of our art community: Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) contributed an illuminated box called ‘Magical’, while Geo Monley and Meryl Rubenstein made ‘Les Puzzles.’

Members of ‘Pataphysical Studios came to cheer for their peers -- Dr. Really was the highest bidder for Dr. Rindbrain’s piece, which was thus kept in the family. After the show, we all went to Stellina to celebrate over a nice dinner.
