Our Border Collie wanders the house for the perfect spot to rest. I think he was scoping out those cookies while trying to act coy.
Bonnie is such a good girl, letting me stuff her in sweaters, surround her with teddy bears. Anything for blueberry treats.
Today, Barney ripped up every single piece of wrapping paper in the house... until the living room floor was completely covered in shredded paper!! In auntie's family, presents are opened one at a time... so Barn stands in wait, then the paper gets chucked for him to catch and "recycle". The one day of the yr when he's allowed encouraged to be really destructive and he LOVES it :D Barn did get rather over-excited at one point and tried to rip the paper off some of my presents before I'd even unwrapped them but we managed to stop him and I still seem to be in possession of all my fingers, always a bonus :) He's eaten Christmas dinner and his regular dinner, been for 2 nice walks, ripped up half a tree's worth of paper and is now collapsed in an exhausted heap. I think Barn may have had the best day of all of us!
Can't believe it's week 52 already... where did 2012 go? Well, I suppose I slept through quite a chunk of it cause of the radiotherapy but I'm planning on staying awake more this year :) I've loved doing the 52 Weeks project with Barney this past year - thanks so much to illona for encouraging me to attempt it! It's been great to have a little project to focus on and definitely encouraged me to get out and about more than I think I would've done otherwise. Plus Barney and I've had lots of fun playing about with the camera each week and I always enjoy seeing all the wonderful photos in the group... Looking forward to 2013, wonder what adventures it will bring?!!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!
Border Collies are my favourite dog - they are a working dog and are all said to originate from one forefather 'Old Hemp'. They are a working breed prized greatly by shepherds. They are not really a pet, they need lots of exercise and are said to be the most intelligent breed of dog in the world. Unfortunately much of this contributes to them being the most abused dog breed here in the British Isles - and many end up as strays on the street or in rescue centres. The Lady_Hysteria, in this shot is a rescue dog who spent 5 years chained up in a back yard in Birmingham. That is 5 Xmas days', 5 birthdays - often with nothing to eat and out there with no shelter in all weathers. When she came to me three years ago she was too scared to bark - because she was frequently beaten by her former 'owner' for making a noise.
For some reason we live in a society that sees fit to continually breed dogs for profit - many of these end up as strays or in rescue centres.
Rescue dogs make wonderful companions and I happen to know that there are some lovely dogs looking for a home right now at www.bordercollietrustgb.org.uk
So perhaps if you are considering getting a dog and you do lots of walking then just perhaps you might think about re-homing one of these fantastic dogs. Just think of all the photographic opportunities and health benefits one of these beauties will bring to your life......thank you so much for reading this.
Happy New Year to you all
