Happy Birthday, Indy, wherever you are, I miss you so much. I have never loved anyone or anything more than I loved you.
Play fighting makes him pull the silliest faces! While Barney doesn't often play with other dogs - even Dilly, he loves to play with me and my dad. It's hard to resist playing with Barney when he flops on the floor in front of me, wiggles around like an overgrown puppy, waving his paws around and attempting to grab my hands (or strangely biting at my hair! Why??). Oh and making the cutest little huffing, panting noises at the same time... I read recently that some research described this noise as dog "laughter" and it certainly sounds like it :)
Ooh, found out my degree result yesterday (not the actual percentage but the basic grade) - I've got a 2.1 which I'm really pleased about!! Such a relief not having the nagging thought that I just might have done something really stupid in an exam or the last sections of my dissertation! There were 10 of us finishing Microbiology degrees at Nottingham this year, none of us got a 1st, but none of us failed either, which is nice, as being such a small group we're all quite close! I can enjoy my summer now :)
Hope everyone is having a good week!!
Reached Explore #51
There were so many good photos to choose from but i just fell in love with this one and im not even sure why... maybe because Drago is the only thing in focus.
I had lost my photography mojo and felt uninspired for a couple of months... so this week i decided to go out and get it back
The little man and me had an awesome sunday full of adventures... we were out and about the whole day, just packed my backpack with my camera, a ball and some water and off we went...
First we went to the mountain for some wild free running... then we headed to the canal and went for an actual run and after that just spent most of the day by the water playing and enjoying the wonderful weather

I was sitting on the hillside, Dilly was sitting neatly next to me on one side and Barney was rolling around pulling silly faces on the other side! Whenever I sit down for a break on longer walks or just to admire the view, both dogs will usually come over almost straight away and cuddle up. However, whilst Dilly keeps her dignity during these moments; Barney throws himself to the ground and plays the fool! For a nervy, (dare I say, neurotic?) dog, it amazes me how relaxed Barney now becomes during our breaks.
He often ends up rolling around like he's doing here, eventually lying pressed against my leg, with all 4 paws in the air and tail wagging slowly in pure joy as I scratch his tummy... It's not that he's tired, as soon as I take a ball out of my pocket or stand up, he's up and bouncing. Barney just loves rolling around and having a cuddle - wherever we are :) He brings a smile to many hikers and tourists faces as they pass us by! He's fallen asleep on the hills before and last summer was even rolling around paws waving, wriggling with joy in the center of busy seaside towns...
I hope you're all having a lovely week :) I tried to catch up with contacts earlier, think I got round to most people!! Sorry, lab work is still keeping me busy - and tired but I'll post when I can :)
Barney the explorer!! Always ready to go up, down, under, over or through any obstacle in his path... He likes to be up high and will regularly scramble up to the top of boulders of banks of earth, have a look around and then fly back down again (sometimes making scarily large leaps) - he once just flew off a ledge that must have been almost ceiling hight! He'd gone up there for a quick explore and when I called him back down, thinking he'd take the same route he'd taken on the way up, he just leaped off the top, much to my horror. He seemed to be in the air for a very long time... Of course, he was absolutely fine, landed as neatly as though he'd just hopped off the front step and galloped off at top speed, a big happy grin on his face, while I recovered from my shock!
While he loves jumping over fallen trees, styles and fences, as well as scrambling up walls, banks and big boulders like the one he's running up here, Barney's favourite non-toy-chasing activity is still jumping up at the trees in search of "squirrels". The sight of a dog racing along hedgerows, occassionally leaping up and down apparently at nothing, with wild enthusiasm and sometimes even trying to snatch at the branches overhead - understandably fascinates both humans and canines.
People often just grind to a halt and stare at him as he whips round and round a tree bouncing up and down, LOL, if I had a pound for every time someone has asked "hey, what's that dog doing?" I'd be rich! It's the response of other dogs that make me giggle though! They come over to say hello and Barney's regular response is to bolt for the nearest tree or hedge and start leaping up at it... The other dog just watches in complete bemusement and then quickly backs off when they realise they are likely to get landed on (he is blind to dogs when on a squirrel hunting mission!). Of course, Dilly's used to his antics - you can almost hear her rolling her eyes at the pup's silliness...
Down in the woods on a late summer evening, enjoying a quiet stroll. Once Barney has had 20 minutes or so to let off steam, he often chooses to come and walk next to, or behind me. He seems to just enjoy the closeness and likes to follow me quietly (so quietly that I find myself checking he's still behind me at times and hasn't disappeared into the woods without me noticing!). If I pause, or move out the way, to let him past, he will just stand smiling at me, as he is here, waiting for me to continue leading the way...
He has only started doing this sort of thing in the last few months, I must admit I treasure the quiet moments like this. When we first had him, I would watch him disappear into a speck on the horizon every walk, he came back when called but always wanted to be off, quite literally running rings around dogs, joggers, ponies... and anything else moving. Gradually, he came to have more interest in herding me and tennis balls than chasing strangers. It's nice to know I am now considered good enough company to keep Barney WANTING to stay close, even when there are no tennis balls around :)
I hope everyone had a wonderful week and has a fantastic weekend!!
Drawing - Pencil Charcoal On Art Paper
A beautiful pencil charcoal image by my Mum, now deceased. She did beautiful drawings in pencil, charcoal and pen and ink, and also some oil paintings.. I loved them so much. This was one of my favorites. We had a garage sale after my dad died, and so sad to say that so many of her original images were stolen from the wall. I still have some prints of her other images and will post more soon.

From Wikipedia - The Border Collie is a working and herding dog breed developed in the Anglo-Scottish border county of Northumberland, for herding livestock, especially sheep.
Considered highly intelligent, extremely energetic, acrobatic and athletic, they frequently compete with great success in sheepdog trials and dog sports. They are often cited as the most intelligent of all domestic dogs. Border collies continue to be employed in their traditional work of herding livestock throughout the world and are kept as pets.
Or: Hard Times on the Prairies. My Border Collie Cody is kicking back since there's nothing to herd and all the rabbits are sleeping at the moment.
I know I have bin inactive here for a very long time... my boy Freddy passed away one and a half years ago and it broke my heart... so I drew back for a long time.
This is one of the last pictures I took of him, and it means the world to me. I miss him.
Photography is my big love. I want to continue to share pictures here with you.
