Paprika getting the royal treatment at Boo at the Zoo.

OMG, these kids were great! She totally freaked me out, just lying there dead-looking. And then his expression when I went to take their photo!

A foreboding tome of magic recipes. I only tried out a few — but instead of turning into frogs, my subjects sprouted wings and flew away. #fail

Just off the Zoo's Haunted Trail.

Boo at the Zoo this weekend!

Almost all the animals are getting some kind of pumpkin-based enrichment. The coatis were thrilled to get pumpkins with worms in them. #‎pumpkinspiceworms

The TOWS students (Talk on the Wild Side) decorate the Haunted Trail, and they did an awesome job this year. It was genuinely spooky.

This was my favorite of his sets. It was based on my favorite Halloween style, the old German decorations from the 40's and 50's.

Join us for Washington, D.C.'s favorite not-so-spooky Halloween haunt, Boo at the Zoo.

With more than 40 treat stations, animal demonstrations, keeper chats, and decorated trails, this frightfully fun evening is a treat for the whole family.

New this year will be an entertainment stage with magicians, jugglers, and a DJ spinning Halloween favorites. Also, don't miss a themed hay maze and scarecrow field.

Another interesting face in the crowd.

A second batch of photos I'm currently editing is from a program called "Boo at the Zoo." Children and adults came dressed in costume.

I think I'll be able to use this photo in a future Powerpoint presentation, next time I mention a king in a story.

Of course, the third batch is from the conservation gala on Thursday night. I have plenty of photo editing planned for this week!

San Francisco Zoo, CA

A lot of the kids had animals they were showing off — in addition to being dressed up all spooky. So here's a snake; I've forgotten what kind.

A few extra shots for Halloween.

It's time, once again, for the program, "Boo at the Zoo." On weekends in October, children will visit Lehigh Valley Zoo in costume; volunteers will give them treats. Everything is family-friendly.

Boo at the Zoo.

Santa Barbara Zoo's annual trick-or-treat event.

This is the tri-county’s most popular Halloween event. Costumed kids aged 2 to 12 and their families trick-or-treat afterhours in the Zoo, enjoy elaborate yet “not-too-spooky” decorations, and interact with more than 70 costumed characters in professional makeup.

More than 20 treat stations are hosted by local community groups who, in keeping with the Zoo’s conservation mission, distribute candy that is either palm oil-free, or contains sustainably produced palm oil.

Sounds like a bedtime story, doesn't it? Bubby the Bison is the zoo's mascot. I think the woman dressed as a snowy owl was a guest.

Aster, alert, as he dives in to grab some more crickets.

Some of the staff designed a tee shirt for the "Boo at the Zoo" program. As you can see, they take themselves very seriously.

Yesterday, we had gorgeous weather. Given the forecast of rain today, the director of operations guessed that yesterday's attendance would be the highest for the year at the zoo.

This group posed for me before the gates opened.
