Domenica, a zoo docent and volunteer, hands out Tootsie Rolls to children.

Of course, the animals had an opportunity to participate in the program, "Boo at the Zoo." Yellow is an aoudad.

This guy entertained people by eating fire and doing tricks with a whip. Of course, he made a joke about heartburn.

The Trick or Treaters are not sure if that's the place to go.

A couple on a date. I talked to them as they watched the penguin feeding.

Not everyone smiles. In this case, I was amused by his serious expression.

More cool Germanic Halloween design. This style is my favorite.

Always try to keep your dragon happy.

Jen (Jen's Photography) and I went to Brookfield Zoo on the last weekend of "Boo at the Zoo" and had a blast. This wolf was "watching" one of the keepers even though the keeper was well out of sight.

We're down here!

Halloween masks and masks for protection. A mother and daughter grab a bite to eat.

....and finally as Halloween draws to a close ( for some of us ), a final pic of our Bei enjoying some pumpkin pie maybe .

Sometimes, people notice my camera and pose perfectly.

I have mixed feelings about the blow-up costumes I've seen in recent years. This one struck me as especially creative. Others simply made it difficult for children to see where they were going!

Trapped within himself, in a way.

Jen (Jen's Photography) and I took a trip into Brookfield Zoo recently and really had a good time walking around shooting all kinds of things there.

This is one of the Bears spending the day basking in the sun. Next year the bears will be moving to their new habitat which is larger and from the peeks we got should be quite a nice place to see them.

An interesting way to put it!

A few of the volunteers at the zoo's kid-friendly Halloween event. I love working with these people!

At this point, she was not in character. She seems to be selecting lollipops for herself. I don't know this girl; she had probably volunteered just for the event.

I was having trouble getting a good shot of this volunteer as she handed out lettuce for feeding the giraffes. When I said, "Wednesday Addams, may I take your picture?" everyone laughed. But, she stepped right over!

A few more of my favorite snaps from the Halloween program at the Elmwood Park Zoo.

Join us for Washington, D.C.'s favorite not-so-spooky Halloween haunt, Boo at the Zoo.

With more than 40 treat stations, animal demonstrations, keeper chats, and decorated trails, this frightfully fun evening is a treat for the whole family.

New this year will be an entertainment stage with magicians, jugglers, and a DJ spinning Halloween favorites. Also, don't miss a themed hay maze and scarecrow field.

Paprika getting the royal treatment at Boo at the Zoo.

OMG, these kids were great! She totally freaked me out, just lying there dead-looking. And then his expression when I went to take their photo!

Zenda again. He's young enough to be quite active still.

A foreboding tome of magic recipes. I only tried out a few — but instead of turning into frogs, my subjects sprouted wings and flew away. #fail

Boo at the Zoo this weekend!

Almost all the animals are getting some kind of pumpkin-based enrichment. The coatis were thrilled to get pumpkins with worms in them. #‎pumpkinspiceworms

The TOWS students (Talk on the Wild Side) decorate the Haunted Trail, and they did an awesome job this year. It was genuinely spooky.
