I had in mind that I wanted to take a photo on the beach again for this weeks "Bokeh" theme..
In my mind there was a beautiful shiny shell somewhere in the frame too.. but unfortunately the seashore wasn't quite as co-operative as I would have liked on that front.. There was, however, plenty of seaweed!
So I had resigned myself to a sandy n' seaweedy shot when along came one man and his dog..
Somehow I think he ended up more interesting than the shell would have been in the first place!
This lens has some pretty interesting bokeh as well.
I've been wanting a mirrored telephoto lens for a while now, and I finally saw one for cheap on eBay, so I picked it up. Not the nicest lens in the world, but it's been fun to play with.

- Saint Petersburg (SPb), Russia
Taking a bit of a step back in time, I was able to spend a few wonderful nights in Russia's alternative and funky city, Saint Petersburg.
Not sure what it was about this place, but I got a pretty sweet vibe. Maybe it was the people I met and the pancakes I made, or the bars I went to and the Banana Beer called "Emo" that I tried.
At night from just the right apartment window, the city lights come on, and their colourful glory seen through the eyes of one very tired or drunk individual would probably look like this.
{Bokeh, originating from the Japanese word "Boke", is the aesthetically pleasing quality of the blur in an image}

NOTES
These lights in the background do not match really well with flash. So straight out of camera, the result is just yellowish and greenish, it really needs some treatment. I ended up with a desaturation and some split toning in Adobe Camera Raw to fix and match the colors. So this was a situation with mixed light sources, that did not work out so well (expect for the great bokeh). But there are other situations, in which the mixture ist just perfect. Compare was this one:

And one thing: normally photogs are on a endless search for new and better equipment. And so am I, until now. :-)
But at least at the moment, I quite fine with what I have. Sort of perfectly happy. :-)

Funny lens tricks here. I don't know how it is even possble but there are inverted and not inverted shadows of the in-focus subject in the blokens and bokeh around it. Any optics experts out there? How is this possible. I've never seen it in a lifetime of taking photos. No flash was used here.
