Birthday party for Tom McMillan. I think this is Watkins and baby Apryl, with Mike in the background. On the table we see the wreckage of unwrapped gifts, including a copy of timely, bluffing-oriented card game The Watergate Scandal.

Pandemic - A co-operative board game where all the players are working together to try and cure 4 diseases before either the time runs out or the diseases get out of control...
We look to be doing reasonably well at this stage, but we ended up losing by about two turns...
Cat's Eye was a boardgame in the 80's. The first time i ever heard about this game was 10 minutes after i shot this, when my wife suggested the name for this shot and told me about the game she played as a child.

The cards say things like:
"Tell the group how you are boring"
" Say something to someone else in the group which you have never said to him before, but which you would like to say."
"Choose a way in which you are self-pitying and parody it."

Jeff and I had a ton of fun at the BoardGameGeek convention in Texas a couple of weeks ago. Huge thanks to the #BGGcon staff, sponsors and volunteers for making this event possible! I believe approx 3200 attended (possibly more?).
Feel free to scoop/share/repost/tag if know the people in the photo won't mind; a photo credit would be appreciated, thanks!

If you like board/tabletop games or want to know more, I highly recommend you checking out the amazing community over at BoardGameGeek.com/ They're doing their annual fundraising campaign right now (I just donated) and LOOK, one of the photos I took is at the top of the page: boardgamegeek.com/support I'm grateful to the BGG community for so many reasons. One of them: they supported me and my art years before any of my children's books got published -- I so appreciate their early encouragement of my comics. :-)
MOC from Feb 2008. It's a minifig-scaled version of two tiles from the boardgame Carcassonne: The Castle. Poor photo quality, sorry.
Only now, googling it, I see that Kartikeya is the Hindu god of war. I'm positive that the guy who made an expansion for Claustrophobia called Furor Sanguinis was aware of that, but I'm not really sure how they relate.
This Kartikeya is a squamata and described like this: "Neither human nor demon, the squamata Kartikeya haunts the corridors beneath New Jerusalem, like all lost souls a prisoner there. Marked by Hell, Kartikeya bears within it the bittersweet rage of those who have no side, no caste."
And he's from a board game. Pre-painted, so all I did was light him up a bit, and use my trusty macro lens.
Also, this is the first image of my project 365 that I didn't manage to shoot at the day itself. It was shot a bit after midnight. Busy day again.
#009/115 ("Mythological Creature") for the 115 pictures in 2015 challenge.
In the game Guillotine you create a list of victims to be executed each round. Players then take it in turns to (optionally) play a single acion card that migh affect the order, then execute the victim at the head of the line
We got to see what the box for Stone Age looks like. That was one of the games we learned on BrettSpielWelt and played probably more times than most owners of the actual board game. Ooga!
Same thing for 7 Wonders.
And we ended up owning Ultimate Werewolf, too.

BACKSTORY: We went to BronyCon this year! Over 8,000 people showed up. This was the only time we really spent the whole weekend there -- the following year (2014), we only went for a few hours on the way back from an exhausting family vacation, and the year after that (2015), we didn't go at all. Attendance is over 10,000 nowadays. Frickin' crazy.

We played Carcassonne today. Mayflower (New World) version. It's for 8 years old but I simplified rules :)
A lot of fun!
Got Five Tribes to the table recently! In this game players are working to become the next Sultan by manipulating different tribes and gaining the favors of the Djinns! Every turn each player takes all the meeples on a single tile and moves them to a new tile, dropping one meeple on each square they pass. The location, as well as the color you drop on the final tile, determines what actions you are able to perform that round. This game has a huge decision space and a lot of choices each round!
