-Philadelphia -- Block party celebrating the year of the snake and our win in defeating the arena in Chinatown! Organized by the Concerned Citizens of Chinatown Association and Uncle Sam from Little Saigon Cafe!
On a sunny Saturday afternoon in downtown Upper Marlboro, Main Street was blocked off from traffic and filled with eye-catching vehicles as far as the eye could see. What sets this car show apart from the many others is the scene itself. Downtown Upper Marlboro has a look that is straight out of Mayberry with a feeling of nostalgia. Not many current car owners participate in this show, but many from the 1930s to 1970s that fit the look of the town attend. Patrons from the young to the old filled the streets with smiles, laughter, and flashing cameras. This car show is held annually by the Upper Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department, the Marlboro Lions Club and Ledos Pizza.
I've had photographer's block for over a year and this photo is my attempt at telling that story. Now, after computer troubles, the recession (still ongoing) and depression, I’m hoping I'm back to taking pictures. I've missed it.
The camera I'm holding in this picture is an old film camera I got when I was a kid. I rediscovered it and realized that there's still an undeveloped roll of film inside. I wonder if it would be possible to get that film developed after so many years.

The arcade which was erected between 1891 and 1893 was designed by architect David C. Askew whose brief was to produce something similar to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. The result was one of Melbourne's most richly decorated interior spaces, replete with mosaic tiled flooring, glass canopy, wrought iron and carved stone finishings. The exterior façade of the six storey office has near identical facades on Collins and Elizabeth Streets and is one of Australia's best surviving examples of the Victorian Mannerist style.
The arcade was formerly known as "Carpenter's Lane", however the precinct was widely known as "The Block". Once the works were complete, local shopkeepers successfully petitioned to have it changed to its present name.
I had way too many beautiful black/white fabrics in my stash.
Think the bottom right block will need to disappear or get drastic cosmetic surgery.

During the Gloucester Block Party last Saturday, there was briefly a beautiful rainbow, which I managed to capture (despite my camera starting to malfunction).
my first two block prints. i think i'll get more into this because it was pretty fun and now i know a little more about what i'm doing with it.
I think this one has the most embroidery of all the block so far, so it took a week, but was well worth it.
Day 46, February 15, 2011's photo of the day
This quick snapshot was taken during the first blocking rehearsal of 'How I Learned to Drive'. It is also the first published photo I took with my new Verizon iPhone. Not a bad little point and shoot camera.
So...what is "blocking"? In theatre, when actors move around on stage, they are not doing that in an unplanned fashion. Every action an actor takes on stage, from picking up a mug of coffee to casually strolling over to a fellow actor, is planned in advance. This planning of actions is called "blocking". The Director has the actors start practicing this very early on because by the time opening night comes, all the movement on stage must look very natural and unrehearsed. Actors can also use the blocking to help memorize lines, by knowing that when an actor walks to point X on the stage, they are to begin an argument with another character.
So, now you know a little bit about theatre stuff - who knew my little Project 365 blog would educate as well as entertain [y'all are laughing at how bad my photos have been the last few days, right?].
