Block cut from vintage sheet swap fat quarters with rolls of Chenille-It Blooming Bias. A new twist on the Asterisk block.

Lyman Tiffany mausoleum, Green-Wood Cemetery, Located in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn, it lies several blocks southwest of Prospect Park, between Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Borough Park, Kensington, and Sunset Park. Green-Wood was able to take advantage of the varied topography provided by glacial moraines. Battle Hill, the highest point in Brooklyn, is on cemetery grounds, rising approximately 200 feet above sea level. As such, there on that spot in 1920, was erected a Revolutionary War monument by Frederick Ruckstull, Altar to Liberty: Minerva. From this height, the bronze Minerva statue gazes towards The Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.The cemetery was the idea of Henry Evelyn Pierrepont,[7] a Brooklyn social leader. It is still an operating cemetery with approximately 600,000 graves spread out over 478 acres. The rolling hills and dales, several ponds and an on-site chapel provide an environment that still draws visitors. The gates were designed by Richard Upjohn in Gothic Revival style. A Designated Landmarks of New York plaque was erected on it in 1958 by the New York Community Trust. A descendent colony of monk parakeets that are believed to have escaped their containers while in transit now nests in the spires of the gate, as well as other areas in Brooklyn. The cemetery was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2006.

I found a paper piecing template for this 12" Spinning Stars block made by a Flickr member in this discussion. It was evvver so slightly off, but easy to fix and I'm really happy to have found it.

Working my way through sewing up the big pile of half-block sets. This is the first batch of completed blocks up on the design wall.

Asterisk block for "wendydi1" in the Bee Connected group. Fabric is Reunion by Sweetwater and she let us decide what the blocks looked like, just so long as they measured 12.5" square!

Mid-block insertion of rudimentary shopfronts - a nice typology - in recent years made over into a sort of "hipster alley," with a pretty solid record store (Rebel Rouser) and several other small businesses offering miscellaneous knick-knacks and castoffs.
Designed as an upscale commercial building in the High Victorian, Italianate style, the Hoyt Block was constructed for a prominent Cleveland lawyer and land developer, James Madison Hoyt and his son, Colgate. Besides naming 100 Cleveland streets, Hoyt was also one of the founders of the Cleveland Female Seminary.
The architect, Walter Blythe, was in partnership with his father-in-law, Charles W. Heard, one of Cleveland's preeminent architects at the time. The two went on to design the First United Presbyterian Church of Erie Street (East 9th) and the Case Block (Superior and Wood Streets).
One of the few remaining stone buildings in the city, the Hoyt Block also has, at street level, cast iron columns capped with carved stone capitals. The structure's windows are deeply recessed and are framed with segmented or rounded arches. When constructed, the building was significant because it employed one of the first hydraulic elevators in Cleveland.
The structure's first occupant was the E.M. McGillan Company which sold suits and cloaks, carpets, notions, draperies and other such items. The names of the building owner and his son can be seen in relief just below the cornice. Renovated in 1987, the Hoyt Block now houses modern offices. The Hoyt Block is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Cleveland Landmark.

Block 4 is the throat of Murray Yard and is the start of the St. Joseph subdivision, which heads northwest to Lincoln, Ne. The CTC also starts here with a handful of pot signals guarding the control point.

Yep. That's all fish the man is crouching on. It is around two metres square at the base, covered in salt, and smells like... well, like a giant block of salted fish. It's certainly one of the more unusual sights I've seen so far...
