Working my way through sewing up the big pile of half-block sets, here's the second batch up on the design wall.
Blogged here.
A few yards from the previous shot where all these concrete blocks.
I assume they were part of some sea defence, but they have definitely seen better days. They made for an interesting photo though.
The Opera House Block (or L.F. Irish Block) on South Main Street in Pine Island, Minnesota. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This is the side entrance to Block 15 in Auschwitz I. A commission of doctors, or murderers...your choice, led by Dr Horst Schumann who was the director of the Euthanasia Centre at Sonnenstein, arrived here on July 28, 1941. Their sick Nazi mission was to select unfit Polish prisoners, mostly from this block, to be murdered in one of the euthanasia killing centers. This exercise was in an attempt to streamline the mass killing process. 573 inmates were taken to Sonnenstein, a few being murdered along the way, and forced into a bathroom where carbon monoxide gas was introduced through the showerheads.
Photographed on Day 2 during my "5 Days At Auschwitz".
Playing at designing my own block, or have you seen this before? Blogged: www.mybearpaw.com/2012/10/bearpaw-squared.html

A Saxton Block paver presumably from Canton, Ohio. This paver is broken in two, and bittle, but it is still very cool.
I couldn't find a lot out about the company other than a blurb about it's building burning to the ground on the night of December 8, 1900:

The last six blocks I worked on at the same time, as I was running out of fabric and had to plan nearly every single piece first. So it was out of necessity rather than a deliberate design decision to make this star four colours rather than two. But, that's the whole point of patchwork, isn't it?
A block I designed for the fat quarter stars quilt-along.

This is a sunset off my computer that I had not yet uploaded. I like the way it turned out on the cube.
I made this at the now defunct (as of Nov 2014) Dumpr website. I'm trying to remove all the links I had since they now forward to a new website with a lot of javascript that I can't be certain is safe.
