First block of four, still trimmed at 13". Made for the Molli Sparkles Broken Herringbone Quilt Along using the tutorial by Anne of Play-Crafts.
If you count the holes you will come up with 630 holes in these 30 blocks of wood. They are in the process of becoming "Mason Bee Blocks." The final assembly will be done by the Summer Teen Group (The Green Teens) at Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve.
Mason bees are important pollinators and lay their eggs in holes in wood. These blocks are design so a person can "harvest" the eggs in the fall, clean them (making sure they are free of mites and other bugs), store them in a refrigerator over the winter, and them put them out in the spring.
With luck, each tube will have 6-7 bee eggs. The bee block I have at home (a slightly different style) now has 7+ tubes filled which means I may have as many as 40 bees waiting to come to life next spring.
Two separate blocks for Eva-Marie to incorporate into her quilt however she likes. These blocks took me such a long time to make! There's no room for fudging or inaccuracies with flying geese blocks. My amateur math errors and unreliable 1/4" foot caused enough problems that I had to attempt every seam at least twice. It was frustrating, but I certainly learned a lot!
These blocks were once loved and are worn in all the right places to prove it. Colors range from fushia to teal and fill my head with memories of mansions built behind a navy blue couch on the warm, sunlit linoleum floor.

The Center for Internet and Society (CIS) once again participated in National Robotics Week, organized by the Robotics Caucus of the U.S. Congress and leading robotics companies, schools, and organizations. In connection to NRW, Stanford University held a Robot Block Party & job Fair on April 11, 2012. This event will showcased cutting edge robotics technology from throughout the Bay Area.
