Fire, Pyrotechnics, Light Displays, Fireworks, and people swinging on massive pendulums. Sounds quite surreal but that was the finale of the display at Blink Margate on Saturday of the Summer Bank Holiday Weekend.
Working to capture the event itself and this is one of the shots captured.

Shimmering fireworks you see all the time (err... every year, at least). But blinking? That was new.
For E-arts festival, Shih Chien Huang presented a low-fi video that produces a curious dialogue between the people of Xuhui and Shanghai’s city landscape at night. Seemingly devoid of life at first, once set into motion, the video of an eye blinking and wandering around takes over the cityscape, eventually setting out to have its own organic life and reproducing itself among the crowds. Nurturing a simultaneously familiar and strange interaction between urban environment, technology, and individual existence, the work succeeds in acting as a spatial manipulator showing “how to” alter urban screens into “art”. When the vision reveals only one eye contemplating what it all means, it makes us all believe that the quest for presence is after all possible in “one look.”

These are battery powered Christmas lights that I found at Target. Battery holder takes 4 AA cells and has an on/off switch. No batteries included - so I put in some rechargeables, and so far the batteries have been running 2 days. The pattern constantly changes, from a slower color change to a rapid blink. Each "snowflake" changes from blue to red to green to gold to orange - very cool stuff. It would be nice to be able to tell it to slow down the blinking to a more mellow speed!

Holding two red, blinking LEDs as eyes to show the speed and direction of the attached DC motor. The Motor is conceiled in a LEGO enclosure and attached to a LEGO wheel. The Arduino Diecimilia board has a hand wired shield with a H-bridge motor controler and two resistors to drive LEDs.

Two images from the Hubble Space Telescope combined into an animated GIF showing a supernova that appeared very bright even though it was very far away (due to gravitational lensing).
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist tilt bridge spanning the River Tyne
The award-winning structure was conceived and designed by architects Wilkinson Eyre and structural engineers Gifford. It was built by Volker Stevin in 2000.
The bridge is sometimes referred to as the Blinking Eye Bridge due to its shape and its tilting method.
This tilting arrangement allows ships up to 82ft in height to pass under. The bridge takes as little as 4.5 minutes to rotate through the full 40° from closed to open, depending on wind speed!
Just one of the challenges facing an organism transitioning from a fully aquatic existence to spending some time on land involves keeping your eyeballs from drying out. The Pug-headed Mudskipper (Periophthalmodon freycineti) has a solution, but lacking eyelids it can not resort to blinking. Instead, when the mudskipper wants to moisten its eyes, the fish dips them underwater. As you can imagine, this sort of adaptation means the species is limited in terms how far it can go outside of water and how long it can be on land before a quick submergence to keep the eyes and other tissues moist. The portal's blinking lights were run by a mechanical switch attached to a crank mechanism. This switch wore out during Brickcon, inspiring me to seek other means of blinking the lights. The gears shown power the portal's rotation mechanisms.

Deboxing my Pullip Snow White doll. First the seal on the top lid is broken, and the inner box is removed by sliding it out of the outer box. Then the contents of the box are removed, and laid down on the floor before being assembled. First I test the blinking mechanism of the doll. There are two spring loaded buttons on the back of her head, under her hair. When they are pushed all the way down, they close the eyelids of each eye, and lock in place. Her eyelids have a considerably darker color than the rest of her face. To unlock them, push the buttons upwards (towards the top of her head). Then the eyelids will open again. The lever in the middle is to move her eyes to the left or right, in unison.
I just received a Pullip Snow White 12'' doll from PullipStyle on eBay. I ordered her Tuesday night and got her on Friday. She is very beautiful, with an outstanding outfit. Her wearable accessories include an apple purse, large satin ribbon and red high heeled shoes. She also comes with a doll stand, and a character card. She has gray-blue eyes, that can blink and move side to side, using buttons and levers on the back of her head. She has long black hair with large curls, and her legs are covered by white tights. Now my Pullip Dal Tinker Bell has a big sister doll to keep her company.
