The 8 story tall and narrow building is standing since 1913 on East Hastings. Build by architect F.N. Bender (for Mr. Mills). These days it is occupied mostly by permanent residents rather than tourist. Interestingly until it was sold in 2015, it was owned by Iranian immigrant who was celebrated as he created clean and safe bar for retirees and other seniors. The building is only 25 ft wide, basically the width of small house in the city. Another Vancouver old fashion neon sign is hanging there since 1940's.

I was wondering if these vintage neon signs were all created by the same firm and yes George Sweeney set up such a company in 1924 and employed art school graduates. Most of the 19,000 neon signs which lit Vancouver at one time, were product by that company. Of course now only few dozen remain.

This sunset I had hoped for a great show but nothing happen as the sun set, just too thick of a coverage, so started the walk home, then I turned to see colors just as it was blinking out so got this one.

Capricious weaving pattern is blinking

I had to get up early to get this shot but at least I had planned for it, by checking the weather, sun position and wind speed. The light was perfect as well for a short time. There is always the X factor that you can't factor in though and for me it is usually scaffolding but thankfully there was no scaffolding around this morning.

The sun was rising or was the earth turning?

The lights were blinking but was I not seeing their offing?

Perhaps a ship was entering the harbour or was it a memory?

The poets say clearly I should stick to photography!

Technical disclosure: Telephoto ICM in near darkness. One light blinked horizontally, another vertically, some cloning to remove clues.

From the day we arrive on the planet

And blinking, step into the sun

There's more to be seen than can ever be seen

More to do than can ever be done

Some say eat or be eaten

Some say live and let live

But all are agreed as they join the stampede

You should never take more than you give

It's the wheel of fortune

It's the leap of faith

It's the band of hope

'Til we find our place

On the path unwinding

In the circle of life

witkoluil/pearl-spotted owlet/glaucidium perlatum is the smallest South African owl and able to wink as you can see...

Eagles have eyelids that close during sleep. For blinking, they also have an inner eyelid called a nictitating membrane. Every few seconds it will slide across the eye from front to back wiping off dust from the cornea. Eagles are able to see during this process since it's translucent. It looks like this beauty just fed....

Arguably the most viewed historical landmark in Montreal, the Farine Five Roses sign has been greeting visitors to the city since 1948.

If you’ve ever entered Montreal from the South-West (by way of the Champlain Bridge, for example) or just looked in that general direction, chances are you’ve seen it before. A bright red, blinking sign that reads “FARINE FIVE ROSES”─each letter being about fifteen feet tall and propped up by enormous steel scaffolding─the sign has been a prominent feature of the city’s skyline for over half a century. Though it was originally intended to be a mere advertisement for the flour mill below it, the sign has gradually become a Montreal icon and a token of our city’s industrial past.

A product of Montreal’s industrial era, wherein the city was hailed as the “industrial centre of Canada” for nearly a century, the mill is just one of the neighbourhood’s many old manufacturing facilities. According to the Industrial Architecture of Montreal archive, “between 1847-1945, the area surrounding the Lachine Canal had the highest concentration of industrial buildings in the country.”

This concentration of industrial activity was sparked by the construction of the Canal itself, which began in 1821 and was completed in 1825. A waterway that connects the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean, the Lachine Canal dramatically increased Montreal’s capacity for importing and exporting goods, turning it into an ideal destination for industrialists, while also attracting “both immigrants and the rural population of Quebec.” As surrounding faubourgs became densely populated, warehouses, manufacturing plants, and railroads were spread out among the residences, resulting in the industrial architecture that still characterizes the area today.

The mill itself was opened in 1946. Dubbed the “New Royal Mill”, it was built by Ogilvie Flour Mills Co. Ltd., a family enterprise whose involvement in Canadian mills dates back to 1801. Industry 67′ Centennial Perspective reports that Alexander Ogilvie constructed his first mill at Jacques Cartier, Quebec before moving to Montreal in 1811 ─ here, the company built their first modern mill in 1886. They eventually expanded across Canada and, “when flour was, in effect, a munition,” the output of the Ogilvie Flour Mills contributed to the provisions of the Allied Forces throughout the First and Second World War. In 1941, construction on the New Royal Mill began and was finished four years later; in 1948, the sign was installed, reading “FARINE OGILVIE FLOUR”.

This Sandhill Crane calls while at the same time closing it's nictitating membrane over it's eyes. This membrane helps protect the eyes and is in addition to the regular eyelids. I notice this a lot for birds of course as it's common to them and it's a lot like blinking is for humans. After all nictitating simply means blinking. Most of the time I avoid sharing these photos but yet, it's a part of life, and an interesting part of birds. So, here is a blinking sandhill crane ;)

Taken 14 May 2019 at Homer, Alaska.

just had to post another eiffel shot lol! again, this is during the light show, where the tower twinkles with blinking lights!

i like how this shot gives you an idea of how gigantic this lady is! the stand on right lower portion is where you get tickets to go up to the top. it was a pretty long line, so had to come back another day.

Happy Wing Wednesday ;0) Still a few of these flying around in the garden! Although it's blinking freezing out there brrrrr cannot imaging them hanging round for long.

Blinking in the morning sun

Shaking off a heavy one

Heavy like a loaded gun

What made me behave that way?

Using words I never say

I can only think it must be love

Oh, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

I originally wrote the story synopsis on a Kittycats forum post back in 2014. Winter and I met over the story I think. I just now added the story on my new blog: Kayla and Winter at home in Second Life

i started a blog. Mostly to start keeping track of poses and animations (who doesn't have a problem finding things in their inventory?). I can use categories and tabs to find things easier. Also I have my first "blogger" position for FarQ/Wondrous Project so wanted a place to start tracking those images as well. And categories are great to track locations and places. I see locations as a type of site like spaceship or bar in case we need that for a scene or photo-op but place is like the actual place like LEA that I am likely to visit more than once.

I am also bringing over my stories that I wrote on flickr and some old posts from blogspot. Thankfully you can date things back to the original date in Wordpress so don't be confused if you visit and see somethings for 2019 and 2015 with nothing in between. Everything is being added fresh but being postdated to their original date wherever I did post them originally to keep things more consistent. I plan to bring over all my flickr posts eventually too since I have a freebie account and they may be changing the rules for them.

I hope you do drop by the new blog for a visit. And if you do, and you let me know you have a blog, I'll pop over for a visit to yours as well.

With heart-shaped face, buff back and wings and pure white underparts, the barn owl is a distinctive and much-loved countryside bird. Widely distributed across the UK, and indeed the world, this bird has suffered declines through the 20th century and is thought to have been adversely affected by organochlorine pesticides such as DDT in the 1950s and '60s.

Nocturnal birds like the barn owl are poorly monitored by the Breeding Bird Survey and, subject to this caveat, numbers may have increased between 1995-2008 (Courtesy RSPB).
