Sometimes it's a blessing when free seats are sparse. This striking woman welcomed us at her table, when our eyes wandered around. Soon we were engaged in talk.

Amsterdam Central Station was the perfect location for her story. Originating in Nigeria, grown up in New York, married to a Dutchman and now living in London, she represented the global citizen of our times. With her her golden hair and velvet dress she looked like a siren from the Odysea, a modern version of ancient times. "It took three hours in the hair salon," she laughed.

"I was trained as a nurse and worked in a hospice in New York. You know what that is?" I nodded: "Assisting people in their final stage. With every new patient you face the great goodbye."

"I was good at the job," she said, "but then I got two beautiful children and I decided to change my focus. I am now training to become a doula. You know what that is?" Something stirred in the back of my mind.

"It's like a baby nurse, but much more personal. You also focus on the mother and her well being."

"So, from death to birth" I summed up the change of perspective. "Tell us, what is your name?"

"Everybody calls me Blessing," she said. "Yes, it's my real name. My parents gave me an African name too. But Blessing fits me."

Christ is born!

We all need those on occasion, right? I think of the people struggling just to feed their families, or overcome terrible pain and disabilities, or trying to find a way to live their dreams. I am sending this out there for anyone that feels a need for that extra boost!

There are a number of Buddhist statues near the peak of Mount Misen on Miyajima Island in Japan.

Google Lens tells me this is a Jizo stone statue, the patron deity of children and travellers. It is said to offer spiritual power for protection and longevity.

Yesterday was a day of celebration and blessings. My son Daniel and his wife Amy welcomed baby Lydia Rose into this world in the morning, and Jol and I ended the day in this beautiful field of sunflowers: sunrise and sunset.

A friend of mine is currently in the hospital, fighting for his life. If you have any extra room in your prayer or blessing lists, or just a hopeful thought to send his way, it would be appreciated.

Hindu woman before the temple in Kuta - Bali

It has been a long time since I've seen one of these.

Last time I photographed one was in 2021 when we needed rain badly.

I wondered then if the moth would bless us with rain and it did.

Now I'd like to ask the Blessing Moth to ease up on the rain, storms, and humidity.

However, I am enjoying finding extremely interesting fungi that the rain and humid weather brings.

After hearing of the tragic news of the poor little 2 year old in Orlando...makes me count

my blessings even more. Hug your Children...and remember to enjoy all the moments !!!! My almost 2 year old making bisquits...I treasure all these moments !

Yule Blessings to all my flickr friends, contacts and those who stumble across my photos.

I have been suffering flu but there will be snowy photos to come soon.

Happy Monochrome Monday

Many times, when I see an artist playing a statue, I wonder how they can be so realistic.

However, when I saw this take in B&W, I had the opposite thought. How can this huge statue (more than 20 meters) seems to be an artist?

Snowdrops are not to be confused with Snowflakes,

Leucojum.

The Snowflake is a much taller growing bulb which normally has more than one flower per stem. Snowflake petals are even, each with a green spots on the end, whereas Snowdrops have helicopter like propellers that are green only on the inner petals.

They are just starting to bloom in our garden.

Dear friends, I send you my blessings for the new year, Bes ~

I prepare and welcome new changes, new lessons and new adventures.

I welcome new opportunities to grow emotionally, mentally and spiritually."

I have fond memories of this place when it was an A&W drive-in diner with a hop. Apparently in 2009 it became Blessing Burger. I don't know what they're calling the place now, but since then, the hop has been removed, and I see that the joint sells "yumy teriyaki". Utter disappointment, in my opinion. Apparently there are way too many classic diners around and not enough teriyaki places. Good to see they're working on solving that horrid problem!

God's Blessings to the victims, their families and friends, here in the U.S. and around the world. Please Lord, give us the strength

to stop the violence. Let us learn love, not hate, peace not war.

Amen.

Usually, the morning shoot is over once the sun hits the far cliffs. The contrast is so large that even HDR has a hard time coping with the dynamic range. Today was no different. The sun hit the far cliffs on the horizon and even though I was bracketing with +-4 f stops, I was not getting anything that was going to be usuable. I started to pack up while I practiced speaking Canadian to the crazy guy to my right when suddenly this layer of clouds swept over and blocked the sun. We both stopped talking and started shooting, shaking our heads in amazement at our good luck!
