The slip and the back of the lace pinafore of the baby blessing/christening gown. I used cotton broadcloth for the slip though the pattern called for batiste. If the eyelets and lacing had been done in white as the pattern instructed then the white-on-white would have been beautiful shadow-work but I needed the stronger whiter white of the broadcloth to make the gown look white after I used the 'Baby Soft' YLI thread colour for the lace embroidery.

Healthy family….HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014!!!
End of April, way past the best timing for cherry blossom viewing in the middle part of Japan. BUT, fortunately, Bibi still got to "catch" a tiny little bit (a few trees XD) at Nagano. ^^ What a blessing!!!
四月底,早已過了在本州,特別是中部賞櫻的最佳時期~ 但是好幸福,還是被我興奮地”逮到“幾株依然綻放的beauties.... 太開心了!還是一句:幸福,可以好簡單!! ^O^

The Port Townsend (Washington) Yacht Club (PTYC) was organized in February, 1947. Friendly and welcoming to all interested parties, the Club has nearly one hundred active members, and hosts a variety of activities and cruises throughout the year. Membership is open to all.
The Club hosts Opening Day ceremonies on the first Saturday in May to celebrate the beginning of the boating and cruising season in our corner of the Pacific Northwest. This year, the ceremony and boat parade was held Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 on the Port Townsend waterfront, Commodore Gerry Walsh officiating. This year, in marked contrast to the previous year, the weather was absolutely spectacular.
Ceremonies begin with an Opening Day breakfast at the Club's facilities just north of the Port Townsend Boat Haven which was concluded by a flag-raising conducted by the local Sea Scouts and Pledge of Allegiance.
Commodore Gerry Walsh presided over the Opening Day parade. The reviewing stand was at the Northwest Maritime Center pier, which affords a great view of the Port Townsend waterfront. Gerry's newly christened boat, CELTIC SUN, was moored at the foot of the pier.
The Opening Day Parade began with a small craft parade coordinated by the Port Townsend Pocket Yachters swinging past the reviewing stand and marshalling close inshore to make room the larger vessels. groups.yahoo.com/group/porttownsendsmallboats/
Port Townsend Yacht Club members followed up with the wide variety of vessels both sail and power owned by members of the Club.
The Club was honored by a VHF radio address from the mayor of Port Townsend, and the ceremonies and parade were closed with the traditional "Blessing of the Fleet" for all. Afterwards, members and guests enjoyed the sunshine and incredible weather with sails and cruising around the area and a chowder supper at the end of the day.
The Greek Orthodox Congregation here in Fort Smith, Arkansas has a blessing of the waters each year and asks for God's blessing on the waterway and all who travel upon it. Father John and his congregation graciously allowed me to record the ceremony. This is the vessel that contains the holy water for the ceremony with the Arkansas River forming the background.
What is happening out of frame is the "blessing of the ovaries," J.F.'s favorite activity involving females. It helps when there's baby juju present to focus the fertility energy.
He also does a blessing for the male reproductive organs, but I don't believe Philip chose to take part this particular day, at least not on camera.

During the cold winter months when the Charles River freezes over, the team works out inside the boathouse to keep in shape. “It’s such an aerobic sport,” said Coach Stacey Rippetoe. “You have to.” © Kiera Blessing 2015

Wonderful devotional that really made me think :)
I loved the passage from Rick Warren's book:
"The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It’s far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose."
It seemed to me we sometimes need to get back to basics. Stop worrying about the big stuff and make sure we take care of the little things that can make such a difference to us all.
Matthew 10:29 came to mind: Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care.
Symbolically, feeding the birds is a small thing to do but has great impact when we do that! If we can perhaps free ourselves from worrying about the big things - or at least from letting those things take over our minds and hearts - and focus on little things we can do well with great love, everything else will follow.
I think perhaps the US election fever and the reactions that we can't seem to escape atm on social media and mainstream played a subconscious part in my thinking today! The results of a whole nation voting can't be changed and people seem to feel helpless, but there is a lot that we all can do in making the world a better place where we are. Let's just start there and see where we're led...? Be blessed by being a blessing to others.

Today, January 6, was a major religious festival in Greece and other orthodox countries, the feast of Epiphany (Theofania in Greek). It commemorates the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan.
After the Divine Liturgy in Church, the priests and congregation proceed to the nearest body of water, in this case Glyfada Beach, and proceed to bless the waters, finishing off by casting a cross into the water which is retrieved by swimmers who brave the cold waters. The one who retrieves the cross is especially blessed. Large numbers of people gather to witness the event, which is usually followed by a leisurely seafood meal in a nearby fish taverna.
