Of course. Because Lichtenstein is respected due to the quality and originality of his illustrations.
The same way Andy Warhol is respected for being this great photographer, and Marcel Duchamp astonished the world thanks to his amazing technique of producing urinals.

It sickens me that people associate Lichtenstein with comic book art. That would be like saying Hitler was a great Jewish leader.

Seriously. This asshole did nothing but enforce high art snobs to think better of themselves and worse of actual comic artists.
Funny. I was at a pop art store in Downtown Disney in Florida and they had some total knock off prints with Golden Age Batman and Silver Age Superman. They did’nt allow photos and I forgot the guy's name.
So not only did Lichtenstein screw over comic artists in favor of his so called high art and pop art... the fuck face set precedence for generations of lazy pop artists to follow.

the preview of the Hero Initiative comic I just saw over at CBR has a great personal view of the Lichtenstein deal .. by Russ Heath .. whose work was also appropriated by Lichtenstein ..

The fine art world seems to simultaneously sneer at...and copy from the commercial artists quite often. Theres also the case of Glenn Brown (one of Charles Saatchi's favourites, that should in itself tell you enough about him) copied works from sci-fi book cover artists Tony Roberts and Chris Foss and passed them off as his own work. Thankfully he was forced by the courts to credit Roberts and Foss and pay compensation to them too.

Presenting the original next to the work Lichtenstein created from it doesn't prove something unless you don't know what you're talking about to begin with. Lichtenstein wanted people to know that he was referencing something pre-existing,that was the entire point.

This plant is an early spring bloomer. It is quite hardy, being very cold tolerant. 2014 April 12 065R-1
Bleeding Heart (Lamprocapnos spectabilis) flowers during the Spring and Early Summer with pendant shaped flowers. Here is a Macro shot of the flowers, which start of small but get larger further down the stem.

These have been at my house ever since I can remember and are amongst my favourite of the flower/plant variety alongside japanese maple, cherry blossoms and magnolia trees (yes those are all trees but my mind is choosing to associate with them)

No idea what this flower is called. The closest looking flower was called Bleeding hearts!
Technique - bleeding tissue wrinkled, torn, and placed on paper. Wet with Q-tip and let to dry. The ink will transfer to the paper in fun patterns.
They were more prolific in my garden this year than ever before. A single plant produced more than 15 flowering stems similar to this one. Webster Groves, Missouri.
Dicentra Formosa ~ Western or Pacific Bleeding Heart
The pink, heart-shaped flowers of this plant define the pacific bleeding heart (Dicentra formosa). While the flowers are not as showy as some of the popular ornamental varieties, the plant as a whole is still beautiful and offers great benefits to a variety of wildlife. Growing 8-18″ high, the plant is a perennial which dies back to the ground in the winter and is usually found in wetter settings such as forests, ravines and along creeks. The leaves are deeply cut which gives the foliage a delicate, lacy, fern-like appearance. The flowers, which stand only slightly higher than the foliage, droop downwards in small groups and are pink, heart-shaped with four petals creating a sac with spurs on the end and appear from April to June. The fruit is a seed capsule which contains several black, shiny seeds.
Bleeding heart is native to the west coast from British Columbia south to central California, mostly on the west side of the mountains and at lower to mid-level elevations. Bleeding heart requires soil which is porous, rich in humus and moist, but without standing water around the roots. It grows well in mostly shady conditions and is a good plant choice for tough conditions under other plants or trees. It’s a rather fragile plant and doesn’t do well with heavy foot traffic and so should be planted in quiet, low traffic areas or in containers. www.metrofieldguide.com/?p=1214
