This morning I fought the wind and Ticks to work with a little patch of Bleeding Hearts I came across on my travels. I found them yesterday but didn't do too well, today seemed to go well and I was happy with this one. It seemed I had plenty of time to ponder the image as most of the time everything was blowing around.

Explored 5 May 2013 #15 (Fun while it lasted - 10:25am and I'm done, dropped, I got my 15 minutes of fame I guess!)
Taken over at Eastry, noticed the the walls had some stains from some substance that had run down the wall over time. looked like blood.
An ambient light exposure for this shot would have been about 1/125 s at f2.8, but it was taken at 1/125 s and f13. This eliminated the ambient light contribution. Two speed lignts were each fitted with a 6x7 inch softbox, and the two softboxes were mounted together to form one 7x12 inch light. This is 150 to 200% bigger than the length of the flower resulting in very soft light. The light was hand held about 12 inches above and forward of the flowers. Power on the speed lights was 1/8th.
It was raining very softly during this shot and a few rain drops made bright refections on the background. These were removed with the spot removal tool in Lightroom.
It's exciting to see that our bleeding heart plant has returned to bloom for another season. I took this photo this morning, seeing these new blooms that were not hear yesterday morning.

. . . Another sign that spring cannot be that far away! Taken indoors with natural sunlight, kind of a substitute since we have no outdoor flowers blooming in the yard yet!

Dicentra spectabilis also known as Venus's car, bleeding heart, or lyre flower, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to eastern Asia from Siberia south to Japan. This species of bleeding heart can grow to 60-140 cm tall and has ternately compound leaves (leaflets that come in threes). The flowers are pendulous, shaped much like hearts, produced in a raceme bearing 3-15 individual flowers, each one 2-3 cm long, with pink outer petals and white inner petals. The flowering season is from early spring to mid summer.
