another CLiC pic.....
this time i mounded the colored lights in a pile and put a blank white canvas in front; the illusion of a container works, right? ~grin~
hmm, maybe this should have been my cliche saturday pic??

in an unadorned room, three chairs and a television set the stage for an absent audience. two vibrant red chairs, their color speaking louder than the silence around them, flank a solitary black chair, creating a visual dialogue of contrast and companionship. the stark white wall serves as a blank canvas, challenging the viewer to imagine the stories that these chairs might tell. the scene is a study in stillness, a static frame of modern life where human presence is implied yet conspicuously absent. this photograph captures the essence of potential interaction, the spaces between us, and the quiet anticipation of company in the simplicity of an everyday setting.
I spent a day last summer [when i still had my digital camera!] catching shadows on a blank canvas that were made from the sun shining through the trees in my backyard.

The painting is located in Gaujas iela 5, RIGA, Latvia 2014.
I didn't like much the wall which was proposed to me but i defenetly liked the area. The piece is situated in the yard of "Brasalona", an evolving artistical and technical complex :

This "blank canvas" work started with the iPad/Touch Sketch image that you'll see in the first comment box below. It went back and forth between Paul and me about 6 times before we were satisfied with the result.
If you haven't tried this kind of collaboration (where a starter image gets passed from one to the other until it's finished), by all means do! It's full of surprises and really fun.
“Meeting deadlines and thinking up ideas are the scourges of an illustrator’s life. This is not a caricature of myself, I really look like that.” – Norman Rockwell
In addition to deadlines, Rockwell faced restrictions on subject matter as well. He wrote that for years the Post would not allow him to show a cigarette. Later they allowed him to show a man smoking, but not a woman. Also, he described how he once painted a man holding a glass of beer, and the Post changed it to a glass of milk. Not his most famous self-portrait, but one of his earliest.

Created for Hypothetical Awards' 3rd Annual ABSTRACT ART challenge.
Here is another in the ongoing series that Paul Boudreau and I have been working on. It started with his original "Two Dots" which you can see HERE. Our collaboration involves passing images back and forth, each making changes or additions, until we agree that a particular variation is finished.
See the entire "Two Dots" series HERE.
Ever since the formation of the group Digital Art from a Blank Canvas, I have wanted to try my hand at painting something non-abstract but I didn't know where to start. Then I remembered a pencil sketch I did many years ago for another project and decided to use that as a starting point.
I scanned the sketch (see 1st comment box below) into my computer and then drew over it on a new layer using the Photoshop pencil tool. When the outline was finished, I switched off the scanned sketch and continued to work digitally, refining the drawing and painting in the colors.
Eventually, when I decided to add the dog, I did the same thing using a photo of a Yorkshire terrior which I deleted altogether once I had completed my painting.
In other words, while a scanned sketch and a photo were used as guidelines, they no longer exist in any way in the finished painting. It's sort of like a real world artist using live models as a reference point.
To finish the painting, I added the green gradient and used a couple of Photoshop grass brushes to delineate the pathway. (The result is the second image in the comment box below.)
Finally, I used various filters and blends to generate the background until I had something I liked. And I do like it ... which sort of surprises me ;-)!
P.S. I did this with a mouse. I have a tablet which quit working a while ago but even when it worked, I could never get used to it.
Created for Hypothetical Awards' "Digital Art from a Blank Canvas" mini-challenge.
This all started when I decided to kill two birds with one stone: create something for the challenge and learn something about Photoshop (which I got a couple weeks ago after using Photoshop Elements for the last few years.)
I decided to experiment with all the new options for brushes that I had never seen before so I chose a brush shape and a color and then made a squiggly line (the leftmost one in the image below). From there I kept changing options and colors until I had an entire canvas filled with squiggles -- all made with the same brush.
At that point I started applying different filters and playing with blend modes until I ended up with the result you see above (as well as several other cool ones that I'll probably use as textures in the future).
I got an iPad Mini for my birthday!! While I've been a Mac person since the mid-80s when I got my first computer, this is my very first "i" device and it's so much fun. I spent the whole trip back to L.A. from Detroit yesterday either playing with art apps or playing games ;-).
This abstract was made using Art Studio, a fabulous iOS painting app modeled (VERY successfully) after Photoshop. I was experimenting with different brush styles and filters when I came up with this image, one of my few experiments that I thought was Flickr-worthy.
"The good news is that my art portfolio was approved ; )
the bad news is that I have 72 hours to paint a 36" x 48" (92 cm by 122 cm) blank canvas!
The Art Theme for the gallery artwork is Space Odyssey and the final painting has to be hanging in the studio by Monday... I haven't even started and the paint needs to be dry... arrrggg!"

I lost track of how many times this one went back and forth between me and Paul before we decided it was finished, but I do know how it started.
I was teaching myself -- with the help of a tutorial -- how to use Photoshop's pen tool to draw vectors. At some point I realized I had a pretty cool design so I added a gradient and sent it to Paul and we were off! See the comment box below for that first image.
This was one tired duck when he arrived at the Fox River. It must have been a long flight. Been around a few days recovering for the next leg of the migration.
This little back alley in Bedminster, Bristol looks like a great place for some of the elaborate street art being created all around it at the Upfest weekend but, unless it was used late on Sunday, was overlooked apart from the unartistic stuff seen here on the walls.
