My entry to the CCC XIX Civilian Building category.

When you have a damaged weapon or need a new one, a blacksmith is the right place for you. Sword in the Forge!

I am very excited about the Ideas Medieval Blacksmith set that adorns my lego room, so I made my own version. The inspiration was a model from Tabletop World.

I hope you like it!

A blacksmith is only as good as his tools. And this blacksmith has built his workshop out of them!

I created this vignette for the Classic Castle's April seed piece challenge. The seed piece was Thor's hammer. I used it as the masonry bricks in the floor and around the fireplace.

Given the heavy mining industry which Laxey was so well known for in the past. Blacksmiths played a key role and so were located close by. This local workshop is still running and providing services, but maybe not as blacksmiths once did.

Located on the east coast of the Island of the Isle of Man in the village of Laxey, the Laxey Blacksmith was founded by Allan King in the early 1990s, his speciality being the design, forging and creation of both functional and artistic ironwork.

Allan has more than 30 years experience working with steel, wrought iron, cast iron, copper and aluminium, and uses traditional hammer, anvil and forge alongside twenty-first century technology.

Laxey is a village who's name derives from the Old Norse Laxa meaning 'Salmon River'. Its key distinguishing features are its three working vintage railways and the largest working waterwheel in the world. It is also the location of King Orry's Grave.

The village lies on the A2, the main Douglas to Ramsey road, and on the vintage Manx Electric Railway, and Snaefell Mountain Railway. Laxey Glen is one of the Manx National Glens; another glen, Dhoon Glen, is about 1 1⁄4 miles away. The Raad ny Foillan long distance coastal footpath, opened in 1986, runs along the coast of Laxey Bay through the village.

Walking through the back streets on Halloween day, Kristen and I came across a blacksmith working in a small, dirt-floored shop, complete with a forge, anvils hammers, all sorts of vices and tools. As we approached a customer was leaving. We spoke with him for a few minutes and he showed us some of the custom die punches that he made to cut shapes from leather, paper and metal.

Keeping up traditional Blacksmithing skills

the malham circular walk was a wonderful introduction to the Yorkshire d.ales, especially for someone like myself from the fenlands of east anglia where the most elevated position is usually is the upstairs window .

we left malham and followed the signs that lead to Janets Foss , then moved on to Goredale Scar , unfortunately we had to settle for a veiw from the position of the rope that warned us not to proceed any further due to the danger of possible falling rocks because of the recent persistent rain. we the returned to the bridge that we had passed on the way to the scar and had a bite to eat and proceeded to take the trail (UP HILL) to the Malham cove, the limestone pavement was very slippery and so we chose to take the safer route over the top and made our way down the other side down a set of very steep steps. once at the bottom we saw the impressive site of the Cove itself. after a 5 hour trek we rerurned to the car, warmed up and set of to a vantage point to see the cove from afar , by this time the clouds had moved on enough so the sun briefly lit up the hillsides,

Look at that texture! Squeal!

This is a picture of my grandfather's blacksmith shop. Joseph Albert Bailey (1879-1959), is on the left. He was a crusty old guy, and I never knew him all that well. We were always fascinated by his outdoor privy and very humble quarters!

The Blacksmith Shop of Trenton dates back to 1823. Still open today with employees that have worked there since 1971.

Having researched the birds we were likely to see in Tanzania before we went I had a list of birds that I really wanted to see and get photos of. Alongside species such as hammerkop, secretary bird and eastern chanting goshawk I also wanted to see a blacksmith lapwing. We didn't have to wait long, on our first day just before breakfast in the Ngorongoro Crater we saw a small flock

We had a very good time at a medieval festival in Rastede.

Lot of interesting booths selling and showing many items. These two blacksmiths were working the whole day. Quite fascinating!

In the southern part of the Kruger National Park there is a small step at a river crossing, that allows a view that is equivalent to eye-level hide. Here we have come face to face with a crocodile and many more. Relaxing when there is little tourist traffic, annoying when it is busier.

Captured just after sunrise in Etosha NP in Namibia, Africa in May 2017. These birds are fairly common throughout southern Africa. They get their name from their alarm call, which sounds like a blacksmith's hammer hitting an anvil. (A repeated 'tink tink tink' sound).

This individual was flying around one of the waterholes in the park, looking for his/her breakfast, normally consisting of aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates.

Thanks for viewing, and I hope everyone has had a great week.
