Met this inspiring gentleman at a country fair at Haddon Hall. His work looked fantastic too. You can check out his produce on www.falconforge.co.uk
Added a slightly sepia-toned texture with thanks to Foxy Squirrel as I didn't care much for it in straight b&w.
I'm interested in knowing if viewers prefer the mono or color processing of these two images (see below) - they are slightly different versions taken a couple of seconds apart.

As travel is not in the cards for some time to come, I am going to mix my photos with new ones and some old from previous trips. This Lapwing was seen in the Okavango Delta, Botswana on our 2015 safari.

Blacksmith Lapwing (Vanellus armatus), Paradise Pool, Moremi, Botswana, April 2022.
The vernacular name derives from the repeated metallic 'tink, tink, tink' alarm call, which suggests a blacksmith's hammer striking an anvil. Blacksmith lapwings expanded their range in the 20th century into areas where dams were built and where intensive farming was practiced. Consequently, they are now numerous and established in the western Cape region of South Africa, where they were absent until the 1930s. In this region they have also entered estuarine mud flats in winter where they aggressively displace other waders. During the breeding season, the species often reacts aggressively to other lapwings or African jacanas that may enter its wetland habitat.
