I'm always looking for something a bit different to photograph, no matter how much it may bore the simply-landscape crowd on here. Mooching around the back of Inverness by the Caledonian Canal I thought I spotted something I last saw in a newspaper about 10 years ago just by the old tollhouse, which was surrounded by a mess of old nauticalia: an old puffer fishing boat, a yacht, a yellow submarine, RNLI lifeboat, creels, buoys, canoes, junk, all overgrown with spikey brambles, bushes and trees.
The story goes that back in 2011 Stan Fraser. a father of five said: 'It all started when I decided on a nautical theme for the house.' My mother told me loads of seafaring stories, and I think that developed my love of the sea. I put a porthole in the window at the back door because we are beside the canal and then built a model of a pirate ship on my cousin's old rowing boat for the children.
He added: 'I think the Titanic is the most beautiful ship ever made and much prettier than any liner today. I started to build a dummy Titanic for fun but it needed to be bigger. I had two caravans in the garden and I used these as the base. Someone gave me an old shed to use and a friend who was building a house gave me some wood and nails to recycle and that got me started. Mr Fraser, a former lighting engineer, fought through his debilitating ME, which has left him unable to find work, to slowly build his 1:10 scale model of the Titanic.
The 46-year-old (in 2011) began collecting other maritime items and his house is filled with life jackets, models of other ships and copies of newspapers reporting on the Titanic's loss after striking an iceberg.
He also wants to develop a new visitor attraction based on a series of giant model ships including an aircraft carrier, a yacht, a galleon, a trawler and a submarine. Among these would be a model of Noah's Ark filled with stuffed animals for children to play.
Unfortunately it seems to all have run out of steam........or has it? www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1372043/Titanic-raised-t...

9/100 - Bits of Bikes
Late afternoon the mist came down, so I thought once it got dark, I'd go for a wander around town (Bexhill). But the mist had turned to rain and I got drenched, but I did get another one for my Bits of Bikes project :)

After having undergone an in-depth renovation, it can now be visited in all its glory in Oostende.
They must have seen 'Roo boxing on TV. They couldn't help but have a couple of rounds in the park. It was a draw, of course.
A bit of sparkle for a Monday evening. The lilac petticoat I was wearing was 'made' for this skirt and so I put the two together :-)

Cobalt drill bits are heavy-duty drill bits.
They are actually only about 6% cobalt in the steel alloy but the cobalt makes the alloy particularly hard and tough. They are useful in drilling into steel.

Camera Obscura - Tougher Than the Rest
This time stack was a bit more complicated to make than the others I've done. 180 images make this one up, which isn't a whole lot. Each image was exposed for around 1/1600th of a second (I had the camera in Av instead of manual so I'm sure some images are a bit longer exposed or shorter exposed... whoops) with 5 seconds between images. The clouds weren't moving that fast otherwise I'd have less of a delay between images.
I'm documenting the editing process so I can remember what I did:
1.) Split the images into two Directories: The first 90 images went into the "1-Lighten" Directory and images 91 through 180 went into the "2-Long-Streaks" Directory. (Note: the images are in chronological order)
2.) Since the clouds were moving away from me I wanted to give the illusion of them zipping off into the distance. Using Advanced Stacker Plus in CS6 I chose "Lighten mode" for the "1-Lighten" batch. You can see the clouds with space in between them in the upper right hand corner of the frame and they get smoother as they reach the horizon due to the next step. I processed the first 90 images this way.
3.) I used the image outputted by step 2 and then selected "Long Streaks" in Advanced Stacker Plus using all the images in the "2-Long-Streaks" Directory. "Long Steaks" creates streaks between images with motion in them instead of empty space (like "Lighten Mode"). Using "Long Steaks" with "Lighten mode" seems to create a sense of smoother and more accurate motion blur when clouds are either coming towards you or going away from you. I probably could've used "Ultra Streaks", but I wanted some definition to remain. "Ultra Steaks" smooths things out a bit too much (from my experience at least).
4.) Once everything was done processing I sighed a big sigh. The ferry entered the frame from the left and was parked right in front of the city. It's white... so "Lighten Mode" didn't 'erase' any of the motion from it. Instead it combined all the images with the ferry in them into one long ferry taking up half of the frame. So I pulled an audible and opened up the first image of the sequence and replaced the buildings and water with a clean image without the ferry (which is why the water is not silky smooth).
5.) The final step was to mask out all the airplanes and bird bits. Half a wing here. Half a fuselage there. Etc...
6.) Final LR tweaks.
Things I would've done different:
1.) I would've processed the images in reverse, so it would look like the clouds are coming at me instead of going away from me.
2.) Wait for that 15 minute window where there are no ferries. There's no way to avoid the planes, or birds.
3.) Use manual mode.

A bit of Light, a bit of Blue in the sky, a bit of Sun as I ambled leisurely in the heart of chilly Groningen revisiting favorite spots. One of those is the Westerhaven and especially the little raised park leading to the second floor of a shopping centre. Of course there's no harbor here anymore. That harbor was once part of City's bulwarks. It was filled in in the 1960s and gave way to the Westermarkt, a market selling lots of fruit. Later the area was developed into a shopping centre.
But the town authorities also provided a 'breathing natural lung', the little park where this Autumn stand some clumps of this very wet Daisy, which will not survive the coming Winter.
In fact, I'd rather have the usual Heather here because its fresh winter-hard lilacs uplift the heart more than dying yellow.
K675 passes through the tiny town of Alida, no more than four houses gathered along the old B&O between Woodville and Union Mills. Alida was the former site of the diamond between the Monon's north-south main and the B&O.
From getting home last Tuesday and leaving the house it took me 45 minutes to get ready to go out and meet up with Esme.
At the time I thought I looked a bit rough in a woman whose had a bad day kind of way. Judging by this photo I didn't look at all bad 😀
I wasn't sure what to wear as it's always difficult to gauge what the person you are meeting will turn up in. I know Esme always has a classy mature image and so I decided on my more relaxed retro style.

A bit further down the High Street we were starting to feel hungry, so we decided to have a brunch stop at the oddly named bakery/cafe 'Mine's a Pasty'! Tim and JJ had pasties but I had a tasty cheese and bacon turnover. We bought Harbie a dog ice cream too!

Things are getting a bit dry brown and crispy here in the East. Have to say the weather has been fab even if it has been a little cloudy some days it normally brightens up in the late afternoon.
the old light was fading by time I took this photo so don't zoom in as the noise is pretty bad. a down side to digital photography in my world :-(
Still it looks nice as it is but then I haven't got my glasses on :-)
A different pose for you just make a change.
After a bit of time struggling with motivation, I took a drive with my sister today to Finnich Glen, which is the home of the Devils Pulpit (the nodule of rock in this picture).
It's a bit of a scramble down, and if you aren't comfortable off road then you certainly won't be comfortable on the way down.
I was a bit off my game, but did enjoy splashing about in the river trying to find compositions. My boots will likely take days to dry though...
A bit of garden photography this afternoon after some lawn mowing, great to see a Buzzard making the most of the Spring sunshine.
This was taken in Feltham Middlesex 1950 I think, I'm with my uncle Bill, we are pointing a an aeroplane , (being near Heathrow airport) . My cousin Barbara is standing next to my Nan ( Bill's mum)
Bit of a pull back shot that I couldn't resist :)

bit of a play with the white balance while sitting on the river bank.excuse me while i kiss the sky.
I noticed this bit of wall seemed to be freshly painted, judging by the clean vibrant coat of pain on it. It was pretty much impossible to wait for a human subject to walk in, but I guess pigeons are not a bad subject too. It was challenge finding the correct composition, matched with the shutter speed, but I think I got it.
I love how the red contrasts with the white, which incidentally also happens to be the colours of our Singapore flag.
May our little red dot enjoy the freedom forever.

Bit of a cheat, this one is from a couple of years back, but it is quite Christmas cardy. Merry Christmas to everyone who looks in here from time to time!
Not sure what the purpose of these curly bits is, but the palm fronds have them hanging off the edge. They pick up the early morning light extremely well.
This image was one of three (of mine) included in "Photography Bay's" Reader Photos Roundup: July 17, 2011 www.photographybay.com/2011/07/17/reader-photos-roundup-j...
Looking a bit serious in this one, think its because the camera was playing up and I didn't know if the timer was on two shots or not.
Bit disappoint yet happy too because this jacket is now too big (yay) but I like it so I am slightly miffed :-(
Oh well I could always get it altered.
This outfit has made me remember that this look actually works for me and that I should wear clothes like this more often.
I will be boring you with this set but I will break it up a little and post some other pics in between.
Good morning, I took this one last night because i got the dress the Friday from a charity shop, It an old Hell Bunny dress and a large so should be a UK14 think again sherlock seems they used to be a little different few years back. its closer a 12 in all truth all be it a large 12. I can just about squeeze into it. I know i have put a bit of chunk on but other HB dresses that are the same size fit better.
Off out this morning i think for the first time since my accident . when i say out i mean a proper punt around the shops. Just hope my trotter stands upto the walking.
