Villagers at Payakona Village in a traditional singsing ceremony put on as part of a "compensation". Feathers of multiple species of Birds of Paradise adorn their headdresses, which are famiy heirlooms. Traditional use of feathers such as this continues in New Guinea.

i got pretty busy today and wasn't too inspired to take any pics but i stopped by this and snapped a quick shot. Cliche and probably way over done but this is my perspective on it. sooc and i love it.

One of my favorite flowers and it always amazes me how many of them there are growing all over California...I'm jealous.
This was an unusual colour for the Birds of Paradise flower. One of the many wonderful plants to be enjoyed in the Jardin de Orquideas de Sitio Litre, Puerto de la Cruz. We went in for afternoon tea which was lovely.
A diving duck of larger lakes and reservoirs, especially with fringing reeds. Male striking and unmistakable with large, rounded, rusty-orange head, long red bill, and black breast. Female rather drab but distinctive: dirty buff overall with pale cheeks, dark face, and rounded brown cap. In flight, both sexes show a thick white wing stripe and whitish underwings. Feeds mainly by dabbling and upending. A common feature of waterfowl collections in European town and city parks.
