Upon the dawn, so soft and bright,
A sunbird flits in golden light.
With feathers kissed by morning's hue,
In crimson, green, and sapphire blue.
It hovers light from bloom to bloom,
A whisper sweet, a soft perfume.
Its tiny heart beats fast and free,
A dancer in the sky's decree.
The nectar calls, so rich, so sweet,
With wings aglow, it finds its treat.
A guardian of the blossoms fair,
It spreads the seeds with tender care.
Oh, sunbird small, with colors bold,
A living gem, a tale retold.
In nature's song, you play your part,
A fleeting joy, a work of art.
Ploceidae is a family of small passerine birds, many of which are called weavers, weaverbirds, weaver finches and bishops. These names come from the nests of intricately woven vegetation created by birds in this family.The structure of their nest is very complex and the shape is very beautiful.Some species of weavers can build multi-chambered nests.
A bird's nest looks like an inverted pitcher. weaver works hard to build a house. Lips repair the grass lining. Gently rub (polished) with the belly to smooth the round shape.At the beginning there are two downward holes. Later, one side is closed and there is a place to keep the eggs. The other side is the long entrance and exit.
The common kingfisher also known as the Eurasian kingfisher and river kingfisher, is a small kingfisher with seven subspecies recognized within its wide distribution across Eurasia and North Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but migrates from areas where rivers freeze in winter.

These bird of paradise flowers growing in our garden were back lit this morning by the early morning sun. So that the rest of the plants wouldn't be just a silhouette, I used an off camera flash to light the side away from the sun. The bare manual Yongnuo flash was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Birds of Paradise are one of the most colorful flowers in the world. The name Bird of Paradise comes from the spectacular flower shape which resembles a birds beak and head plumage

Strelitzia is a genus of five species of perennial plants, native to South Africa
In South Africa it is commonly known as a crane flower.
The back feathers of a male peacock after a mating dance in court of Castelo de S. Jorge in Lisbon, Portugal.
This bird was doing a dance for over 10 minutes until it gave up seeking the attention of the female.
This was taken with my Canon Rebel t2i. I then ran it through Colorblast to make the flower pop and let the background become monochrome. I took this at the Myriad Gardens in OKC.

The spectacular male Victoria's Riflebird putting on a show for the ladies! This photo doesn't really do this bird's plumage justice - their colours are just astonishing. Their plumage is jet black, with an amazing splash of blue/green iridescence colouring on the head & throat & a beautiful bronze colouring across their abdomen. When the dappled rainforest light hits their feathers, the black has a wonderful purple tinge to it & the iridescence feathers light up in an incredible array of colours.
The male selects an appropriate vertical platform to perform his ritual, usually a dead tree trunk or stump. In order to attract a female, he lets out a series of raspy 'yaars' calls to alert her of his presence. When the male begins to display, he erects the feathers of his throat & sides to accentuate the bright colours of his plumage. He curves his rounded wings above his body, tilts his head back & opens his beak wide to reveal the brilliant deep yellow of his throat.
Once he has the attention of a female, then the real show begins - the dance! He starts quickly moving from side to side, in an almost mechanical like fashion. He will slowly 'bounce' on the spot, without ever leaving his feet, & he will manoeuvre his body in the direction of the female as she moves about the rainforest.
Once a receptive female lands on the display in front of him, the pair begin an elaborate courtship routine that sees them dance from side to side, with their heads on opposing angles to each other. The male will continually hide his head from the female behind his wings during this routine. He will perform his 'wing clap' display that all but embraces the female with rapidly alternating wing extensions at a progressively rapid tempo, until he wins her over & copulation commences.

One of the reasons I purchased the home we live in.
We have a beautiful, wild flowering property where a variety of flora abound in the temperate San Diego climate. We were blessed to inherit a vast number of Birds-of-Paradise plants around our home and driveway. These are in bloom, providing beautiful orange and purple flowers, from September through May and really brighten up our days during the winter months.

The Pharaoh's chicken,
Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus), also called the white scavenger vulture, is a small Old World vulture and the only member of the genus Neophron. It is widely distributed from the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa to India. The contrasting underwing pattern and wedge-shaped tail make it distinctive in flight as it soars in thermals during the warmer parts of the day. Egyptian vultures feed mainly on carrion but are opportunistic and will prey on small mammals, birds, and reptiles. They also feed on the eggs of other birds, breaking larger ones by tossing a large pebble onto them.
