This is the last of four photos I made while strolling through the backyard of our San Francisco home. I am always delighted there are so many photo opportunities right outside our back door. This photo is of two of Birds of Paradise with our new redwood fence in the background. Melody and I are having great fun watching our numerous Birds of Paradise plants as their flowers develop and mature.

From 19 September - 29 September 2007, I was part of a group of 10 high school students from my town (Toowoomba) to travel to Papua New Guinea.
The trip was organised by Catholic Missions, and its purpose being for us Aussies to met the youth of PNG. We toured around the Chimbu province for most of the trip.
The trip was amazing. We met and connected with so many beautiful and interesting people and experienced an extremely different way of living. I loved every second of it.
This is focusing on the details in the headdress. This is part of the traditional dress of the Chimbu province. It is mainly made from birds of paradise and some fern leaves.
It is very beautiful. At most of the welcoming ceremonies we went to, there were a few of the men, women and kids dressed in the traditional attire.
Unlike the Bee Bees, the sun conures are pretty bold about landing on humans! I'll post more shots of the sun conures soon.
I made this and the following photo of our San Francisco backyard in mid May of 2018. This is a horizontal shot showing the 25 foot width of the yard. Melody and I had been working on it periodically for the previous two months. After clearing our the weeds that had grown through our moderately wet winter months, we placed several heavy stepping stones that a friend had given me decades before. Then we finished a border around the garden area and covered what bare ground was left with bark. This small 25X25 foot yard has provided subjects for many photos we have posted on Flickr throughout the years. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50.
Birds of Paradise, also known as Crane flowers is one of the most beautiful Exotic Flowers. Birds of Paradise are native to South Africa.

This is a photo of the Birds of Paradise flower, formally known as Strelitzia. It is one of my favourite flowers whenever I visit the Botanic Gardens because of the shape and the beautiful vibrant colours. This was taken in February 2020.
Our family has always welcomed each new year with food, fruits, prayers, and small containers of rice , sugar, salt, green beans, and eggs placed on the dinner table. These are all offered with the hope that the new year and the years ahead will be even more fruitful. This year is no different, this is one family tradition that I hope me and my sisters will pass on to the younger generation. Thank you 2013, welcome and let's have a blast, 2014! :)
