These medium sized nightjars fly low to the ground toward dusk and through the night eating small insects. In the morning they lie on the ground sleeping sometimes very close to trails as was the case with this one. This bird was only 3-4 feet off of a trail at Estero Llano Grande State Park south of Weslaco, Texas near the Mexican border.

Il Khichan Bird Sanctuary si trova a una distanza di 171 km dalla città di Jaisalmer, nel villaggio di Khichan. Questo santuario naturale ospita tre tipi di uccelli chiamati Kurjan, Karkara e Kunch che migrano dall'Europa sud-occidentale, dalla regione del Mar Nero, dalla Polonia, dall'Ucraina, dal Kazakistan, dal Nord e dal Sud Africa e dalla Mongolia. Questi uccelli possono essere visti in gran numero in questo santuario degli uccelli tra ottobre e marzo, mentre migrano in India durante questo periodo per evitare i freddi inverni europei.

 

Khichan Bird Sanctuary is located at a distace of 171 kms from Jaisalmer city in the village of Khichan. This natural sanctuary serves as home to three types of birds called Kurjan, Karkara and Kunch that migrate from South West Europe, Black Sea region, Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, North and South Africa and Mongolia. These birds can be seen in large numbers at this bird sanctuary between October and March as they migrate to India during this time to avoid the cold winters of Europe.

This bird was so far away from my camera that I could not get a distinct picture with maximum zoom.

Another bird from the morning walk in Hemet. If you know what this is, please let me know. Initially I saw him in the middle of the power line, but as I raised my camera, he flew to the next support pole, keeping an eye on me from his less exposed vantage point. Not a bird expert, at first I thought he was a small owl because of the white fluffy feathers and his short, round shape. But he doesn't look like an owl here in the photos. Is it a juvenile hawk?

Three birds and a hint of blue were so welcomed on a day with a rather flat light and poor visibility. Iceland of course, what else!

Dozens of bird sculptures suspended from the ceiling at Resorts World Las Vegas

When visiting Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (KAG) I often stop by Kenilworth Park (KP) first since the Gardens don't open until 7:30 and KP is always open.

 

KP is a city (DC) park, while KAG is a National Park in the federal system. They are just 2-minutes apart by vehicle.

 

Birding is often better at KP and since it has several acres of soccer fields and some natural areas, I see some species there that I never see in the Gardens.

I have to admit that I have photographed this island many times. Once it was underwater at high tide. But this time it was above water and attracting a few different kinds of birds. If you study it, for example, you will see a cormorant.

This bird necklace is replica of the item that was found in archeological research. The model is originally from the Viking era.

I took this and the other photos in this south Texas bird series as a participant in Brian Loflin's South Texas Bird Photography workshop.
