sophie caught a bird a few minutes ago, and brought it inside very proudly -- and put it under my bed. i managed to get it out with the help of a broom -- and discovered it was still alive -- so took it out on the porch. it's a little yellow warbler, and it sat here breathing and blinking its eyes for about 5-10 minutes, i wasn't sure if it was injured or just stunned ... but a few moments after i took this, i tried to pick it up to move it to a shadier spot, and it flew away.

The Hanglands.Considering they are very lightweight, these beauties have a very large wingspan. A Poem,
Take me noble Owl on your fenland patrols
passing silently over woods and fields
in search of mice and voles
Your hearing so acute you can pinpoint hidden prey
and eyes so sensitive that the blackest nights are the clearest days
I would love to ride with you owl
and be carried by silent wings
to observe your stealthy hunting
and see what your cunning brings
And join you as you plummet swiftly to snatch a meal from the ground
the stalk descent and rapid kill made without a sound
After your moonlit sorties owl you return to shrouded bough or barn
to rest until the next sunset when you fly again over crops and farms
Lord of the twilight hours I am drawn like a magnet to thee
you are my prince of darkness owl the wise bird I always long to see.
