McDonald's Bourg Saint-Maurice has undergone some minor renovation to meet the new European McDonald's standards like signage and interior design. But it did fortunately not loose its montagnarde architecture. That's why an update of my previous photo (January 2010) is justified and this time with some more snow than in 2010.

McDonald's Villabé A6 16/2017 11h59

A break during my drive after driving 133 kilometers from Auxerre to Versailles. This McDonald's restaurant is located along the autoroute du soleil A6 on a rest area, but this restaurant is accesible from the local road as well. The drive-thru is accesible from the Route de Lisses (D260) which is connected to the exit 9 (Villabé, Evry, Lisses) as well. Google Streetview shows that this restaurant learned us this store is built somewhere in the 1990's. This restaurant used to have two Drive-Thrus, at both the route départemental as the rest area. Nowadays only from the D260 which is easy to acces and exit as well from the A6.

As we speak (*November 2017) McDonald's has over 1380 restaurants in France, Burger King 183, Quick 256 and KFC 214. Five Guys has 5 restaurants in France.

In the foreground of this restaurants is -besides the Drive-Thru- a pick-up parking for people who ordered online. They don't have to leave their car, they only have to check in at the 'borne' Check In.

McDonald's Downey 08/12/2009 10h21

McDonald's Downey

The 1953 McDonald's restaurant at 10207 Lakewood Blvd. (at Florence Ave.) was the third franchised McDonald's built and is the oldest surviving McDonald's. It was listed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 1994 list of the 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. It was one of the first restaurants franchised by Dick and Mac McDonald, prior to the involvement of Ray Kroc in the company, and it still has the original "Golden arches" and a 60-foot animated neon "Speedee" sign.

With low sales, damage from the 1994 Northridge earthquake, and the lack of a drive-up window and indoor seating, the restaurant was closed. However with both the public and preservationists demanding the restaurant be saved, McDonald's spent two years restoring the restaurant and reopened it. Customers today can visit the original restaurant and an adjoining gift shop and museum.

I had just a few photos of the classic Germantown McDonald's from June 2013 that I never posted to flickr. Lunch rush was still going strong when I took this photo, if I remember correctly on an early Saturday afternoon. Today, lunch rushes have been put on hold for a few months.

A dollar from the sale of every Big Mac went to children's charities.

I was just having lunch there, which I don't do that often but I promised myself that I would that Wednesday because I was sweltering in a fleece work sweater working the grocery store parking lot on a hot May morning so I needed something to look forward to. I didn't buy a Big Mac (too heavy for lunch), just a Junior Chicken meal, but I donated a dollar anyway and put a "shoe" up in the front window.

There was a woman there serving customers whom I didn't recognize, but I think she's some sort of on-air personality at "106.9 FM The Bear", as there's an uncaptioned photo of her serving customers in the Bear's McHappy Day gallery. (The Bear is located just a couple of blocks north of the Merivale Road McDonald's in Nepean. It's in the same broadcasting complex as CJOH-TV.)

This restaurant is located along the Route Nationale 10 (N10) at a huge roundabout and surrounded by lots of hardware stores (big box stores). It used to look the same as McDonald's Nîmes I visted in 2013) but during my visit the store was under heavy reconstruction to meet the new European corporate identity. The mansard roof with classic rooftiles is gone and the store will be modern box shaped with two floors.

A bit further into the commune of Maurepas there is a huge centre commercial (Pariwest) surrounded by a roundabout (Rond Point Pariwest) where another McDonald's (also featuring a Drive-Thru) and also a free-standing Pizza Hut and Quick.

At the other side of this McDonald's restaurant at the N10 a freestanding KFC (with Drive) is located as well.

The restaurant remained open during the renovation but parking was very hard and the Drive-Thru was temporarily closed.

Here's the near twin of that Southaven Church Rd. McDonald's: the early 2000's built mansard roof location on Hacks Cross Rd. in the Southwind neighborhood. I didn't go in here, since I was pressed for time and it seemed just a bit on the seedy side, but probably would of been OK.

The lobby decor looks like a remodel, but this floor sure looks 70's to me, although most 70's McDonalds I've seen had a red square tile floor. At some point after 1981 they added an indoor playland to the front of the building, so maybe this is mid-late 80's tile at least.

One of the very special McDonald's restaurants in the Netherlands. Located in an old building from 1923 and transformed into a McDonald's with McDrive (Drive-Thru) in 1993. McDonald's has had more plans in the Netherlands like this like transforming windmill De Dikkert in Amstelveen into a McDonald's but these plans never became reality.

Mackinac Bridge at night, still got some ice ... a beautiful full moon night

Around mid 2013, McDonald's decided to move on from the location pictured in the previous photos, leaving this strange de-branded building behind! So it went from shingles, to a metal roof, then back to shingles again: amazing how much money sometimes gets spent on remodeling things back to resemble what they once were. They went to a whole lot of trouble here to erase all McD's traces, even removing the drive thru portico. This does actually have a bit of a throwback vibe to it now! But it's hard for McDonald's to fool us retail geeks: most times these debranded buildings are fairly easy to spot. Here's the nearby Elvis Presley Blvd. debranded location, last known as a Christian book store: flic.kr/p/cPeaf7

On Monday evening, my parents had supper at an event, so they were going to stop by the Merivale Road McDonald's in Nepean to pick me up a Southwest Chicken sandwich and fries, only to find it closed and surrounded by a fence.

They said there was a sign that said "Closing February 2009", so, on Wednesday afternoon after work, I decided to walk by there to see what's up. As I suspected, it hadn't gone out of business, it was just closed for renovations, presumably to change it to the current standard McDonald's design, with the rectangular facade, the yellow awnings, and the flattened arch.

It would be a little odd for this McDonald's to have gone out of business, since it's on a major commercial street not that close to any other McDonald's and because it always seemed fairly busy.

Personally, I understand the need for a major corporation to rejuvenate the look of its brand every decade or so, but I'm going to miss the "classic"-style McDonald's roof.

It's also a little annoying for me, as I won't be able to go straight to McDonald's after work once or twice a month to get a Junior Chicken meal, not that I've done that in a couple of months due to the Ottawa bus strike. I mean, I'll still be able to now that the buses are finally coming back this coming Saturday, but I'll have to go out of my way, to either the McDonald's on Baseline or to the in-store McDonald's at the Lincoln Fields Wal-Mart.

Aerial photos reveal the original Senatobia McDonald's building was actually just to the south of this one. That site is now the main parking area for the current building. I may of been to that older McD's once or twice back in the mid-late 80's, but have rarely been in Senatobia since then.

I had no clue this McDonald's had been replaced and moved to a slightly different spot! The original building stood right where I took this picture from. And from fuzzy personal memory, the big parking lot was on the other side of that original building, meaning the parking lot and buildings essentially swapped places.

Naturally, this photo came out the blurriest of all. There were several people eating behind me, so I didn't take time to focus the pictures like they should of been focused. This location now has those ultra low order counters designed for easier access for disabled people. They look like white blocks of molded plastic! Odd, like just about everything else in this new McD's interior. It's McDonald's Monday, only starting one day early in order to get all the photos I want uploaded. Here's yet another photo taken in 2012, and tucked away without ever being uploaded to flickr. This is what the Hernando MS McDonald's has looked like for many, many years, very likely since it's opening. The 1994 build date I'm going with can't be confirmed 100%, but I believe it's pretty close, and fits for this style of McDonald's. More on that at the next photo. I probably don't even have to tell you this is a "before" pic, and since it's a "pre-eyebrow" McDonald's, you can guess where this is headed...
