Although the door is open I am reluctant to step
over the threshold. I am afraid that I might lose my
balance. This land is foreign to my feet
and walking is hard and I’m afraid to fail.

"The things I do for my girlfriend. Maxine and I just finished a shoot for the third season of BFF and she has me all strapped up in this Prince Charming garb. I feel like a dork. But I do it because I love her. Also the look on her face when she saw me like this was priceless. She always told me she imagines herself as a princess so I guess seeing me dressed like a prince stirred up some childhood memories or something."-Evan
The well-known steam-era coaling tower that straddles the four-track former Chicago & North Western commands the background of this scene, while one of the C&NW's classic iron gantry bridges and a "BEGIN CTC" sign are in the foreground.
This favorite location is safe – for the moment. The long-retired coaling tower hosts a couple of antennas for Positive Train Control. But one day, Nelson will bubble up to the top of Union Pacific's hit list, and the scene will change forever. One has to wonder if the trackage will be pruned to reflect current traffic levels, and even whether the coaling tower will finally have its date with the wrecking ball.
Rural Nelson was an odd place for the North Western's most impressive signal installations outside the Chicago area, but its significance is explained by the junction with the C&NW's so-called "SI" line to southern Illinois. Through friendly connections, traffic from St. Louis flowed to Chicago or elsewhere on the system. But more important was the flow of coal from southern Illinois mines headed to Chicago. A sizeable portion of this coal wound up in this very coaling tower, as well as others at De Kalb and at the yards around Chicago.
One of the four tracks is currently being used to store bare tables that are idled due to the business downturn.

Shot standing on an outlet glacier, Solheimajokull, S-Iceland. The small stream is running down the almost unrecognizable ice. Outlet glaciers tend to be covered in sand. This small stream is the first in a series of streams that come together and form a river. The other ones down the line mostly come from underneath the glacier.
Shot on 17mm, 1.3 sec, iso50 with Lee filter system.

[A test MOC for DC5 if it goes with a fantasy theme, and my idea right now is the beta necromancer uprising. Dark and edgy humor is my kind of thing.]
