The skirt I made today out of a Rainbow Brite bedsheet, a shower curtain [as lining], and various other fabrics. =)

I've been itching to grab my second issue of oh comely for a few weeks now. After reading my first one which was issue 6 i knew from then it was the only magazine i could ever want.. I was thinking how i should get into collecting issues of some sort but the only thing i'm genuinely interested in is photography. I tried a while ago reading a Cannon photography magazine cover to cover but i was just plain bored of it! I feel smug reading a magazine that has the writing "professional photographer" plastered over the cover. I don't feel.. comfortable when i'm reading it unlike oh comely. It has anything you could want inside! Pretty photography created by vintage cameras and model photography that has a homemade feel to it and isn't photoshopped so it's totally fake and unrealistic. When you read it, you feel like you've been transported into an old coffee shop, sipping on a steaming beverage and hearing the hum of the busy people all around you, laughing and talking. I just adore everything it has to offer!

Love hangs herself

With the bedsheets in her cell

Threw myself on fires for you

10 good reasons to stay alive

10 good reasons that I can't find

Oh, give me a reason to be beautiful

So sick in his body, so sick in his soul

Oh, give me one reason to be beautiful

Oh, and everything I am

Love hates you

I live my life in ruins for you

And for all your secrets kept

I squashed the blossom and the blossom's

dead

Oh, give me a reason to be beautiful

So sick in his body, so sick in his soul

Oh, and I will make myself so beautiful

Oh, and everything I am

Miles and miles of perfect skin

I swear I do, I fit right in

My love burns through everything

I cannot breathe

Miles and miles of perfect sin

I swear, I said, I fit right in

I fit right in your perfect skin

I cannot breathe

Hey, baby, take it all the way....down

Hey, baby, taste me anyway

Oh, you were born

So pretty oh summerbabe

We'll never know...

And fading like a rose

Give me a reason to be beautiful

So sick in his body, so sick in his soul

I'll give you my body, just sell me your soul

Oh, and everything I am will be bought

and sold

Oh, and everything I am will turn hard

and cold

And they say in the end

You'll get bitter just like them

And they steal your heart away

When the fire goes out you better learn

to fake

It's better to rise than fade away...

Hey you were right

Named a star for your eyes

Did you freeze did you weep

Turn to gold, baby, sleep

Hey honey mine

I was there all the time

And I weep at your feet

And it rains and rains

ink on floral bedsheet, 90 x 108", 2015-2022, $5000

Last week I was going through two storage tubs that usually live in my closet that I pretend aren't there. I moved them through 4 different states and haven't really looked through them in two years. A treasure trove of unfinished objects, some of which just needed finishing touches. Hopefully it won't take me another two years to finish them all.

A-line skirt made from thrifted bedsheet.

Here's a better view of the fabric. Mine's vertical, but this one's horizontal. I think I like horizontal better.

#1  (allusion to the bedpost #3): 1876, Henry Holiday: Segment of an illustration to Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark (vectorized after a scan from an 1911 edition of the Snark)

#2  (allusion to the bedpost #3 and to Philip Galle's print #4): 1850, the young John the Baptist in John Everett Millais: Christ in the House of His Parents (aka The Carpenter's Shop). The left leg of the boy looks a bit deformed. This is no mistake. Probably Millais referred to #3 and to #4.

#3  (Henry VIII's bedpost): 16th century, anonymous: Redrawn segment of Edward VI and the Pope, An Allegory of Reformation, (mirror view).

#4  (bedpost #3 alludes to bedpost #4): 1564, Redrawn segment of a print Ahasuerus consulting the records by Philip Galle after Maarten van Heemskerck. The resemblance of #4 to the image #3 (the bedpost) was shown by the late Dr. Margaret Aston in 1994 in The King's Bedpost: Reformation and Iconography in a Tudor Group Portrait (p. 68). She also compared the bedpost to Heemskerck's Esther Crowned by Ahasuerus.

2011-08-07: As John Everett Millais included pictorial citations from an anonymous 16th century painting into his 1850 painting Christ in the House of His Parents, I always wondered why that bedpost from the anonymous painting did not made it into Millais painting. But today an idea crossed my mind, which led me to insert image #2 (second from left) into my earlier 2010 comparison of images #1, #3 and #4.

One more from the 88 year old lady.

This is a corner of the table cloth which she painted.

There are 15 such figures on the sheet.

I can't tell you how much I enjoy working with Kat! She isn't afraid of looking or acting foolish to get the right shot.

Ever seen potatoes in such glamourous setting?

A moment of 'wuliao' (silliness) saw me taking out my red bedsheet from the dryer-machine, grabbing a crystal bowl and piling my dinner spuds onto the setting .... haha, I should serve my potatoes more often in such glam setting to increase their attraction quotient!

I've graduated from hanging bedsheets on the walls with thumbtacks, to hanging bedsheets from a gerry-rigged PVC frame with binder clips. GOOD FOR ME!!!
