Sometimes we all need a little reminder. It is so easy to get lost in our own trials and struggles, that we start to feel alone or that nobody cares. Thankfully, we do have people in our lives that care, but most importantly we have a Father in Heaven that cares and loves us deeply. Love does not always translate to ease, luxury, or even happiness.

The hen loves her chick, but no matter how hard it is, the hen will not interfere with the chick's struggle to get out of his or her shell. The hen knows all to well, that making the chick's life easy and helping them out of the shell will severely cripple if not kill the chick. Another interesting fact is that is takes on average 24 hours of struggle before the chick gets out of the shell. Struggle that grows us, will not be quick and painless, but rather it will take time and significant effort. But, during the whole process, the hen is close by and concerned for and yearning to take the chick under her wings. Our Father in Heaven is by us and concerned for us and sending forth His angels to be around us to bear us up and very eager and excited to take us under His wings.

I simply love this quote. It is so important to remember this as we go through trials and challenges in this crazy world we live it. So often, we get decieved into thinking that our doubt and uncertainty are just what we are feeling at the moment and does not affect or alter our faith and sadly that is what Satan would have us think, for in this state we are in his power. We need to quickly realize that doubt and fear cannot coexist, and when we doubt we are willingly putting our faith aside. We need to use our faith in Christ to stand up boldly for truth, even if we are standing up against ourselves and our own doubt and uncertainty.

We had family down for several weeks over the holidays and one activity we did together was rock climbing and repelling. This is my daughter Cessilee, and I was so impressed with the speed she demonstrated as she scaled the mountain. She had to of had one of the fastest, if not the fastest time of all the cousins. She did not allow her fear to get in the way, she just stepped up to the plate and did an amazing job. We too need to put away our fears and sins and just become our best selves. We can only do that as we take up our cross and follow Christ with our whole souls. I testify that as we do that we will have power from on high to become our best selves.

What I think happens so often is that we have FAITH that God performed miracles and that miracles or forgiveness happen to others but somehow along the way we don't BELIEVE that he can perform miracles or forgive us. Reading A Voice of Warning / Or, an introduction to the faith and doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Voice Dream. What an amazing book. I loved this quote from it, "Thus, faith comes by hearing, and knowledge by obeying." The act of obeying is so powerful. Think of it in terms of working out. I could have all the faith in the world that if I worked out everyday my muscles would get stronger, and I could have that faith till doomsday with no results, untill I take action and obey and then my faith is no longer, because knowledge has replaced it through my obedience. I was just messing around durning sacrament meeting and came up with this. I think it is pretty good looking. Mostly, it got me thinking about what it would be like to be taught personally at the feet of the Savior. I can't think of any better way to be taught. As I pondered that throughout the day, the thought came with great force, that we don't have to yearn for that time because we can be taught at His feet, now, if we will but just live the Gospel with all our hearts.

I have been thinking a lot about faith and it’s role in being ushered into the presence of the Lord. Let’s start by looking at a few scriptures.

Scriptures Overcome Contention

This morning I was wondering up with fighting children. I felt like going out there and getting mad at everyone for fighting, but the spirit had a different plan. I found myself rallying the children together for scripture study instead. It was amazing, because I just said whoever wants to do scripture study, come on, and they all came. Ashlyn had found a few scriptures she wanted to make quotes out of and so I thought it would be fun to do some scripture study and then make a few quotes from them. The below quotes are the fruits of our labors, and I am pleased to say that as we studied there was very little contention and a very peaceful feeling prevailed. Today was a testament to how the study of scriptures can overcome contention and invite the Spirit into the home.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie taught: “Faith is a gift of God bestowed as a reward for personal righteousness. It is always given when righteousness is present, and the greater the measure of obedience to God’s laws the greater will be the endowment of faith” (Mormon Doctrine, 2nd ed. [1966], 264).

I simply love this quote. Years ago, after reading the book, “Kolobs Theorem,” I was praying about what attracts the Light and glory of God unto us and the spirit taught me that it was through our faith. Later when Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, “It is by obedience that we gather light into our souls.“ I took this to the Lord asking if I had misunderstood my previous prompting. The Lord then taught me that they are both true and that obedience is the proof or witness of your faith.

As I read this quote, I thought of the analogy of school and that the test proves or is a witness of the mastery of that material. Once someone masters that material they move onto the next chapter or greater knowledge. This same concept applies to faith and obedience, as we acquire faith as a gift from God and through obedience we show forth mastery of that portion of faith, the Lord then bestows greater faith. As we master that level of faith and prove it by obedience, then the Lord bestows even greater faith, and this continues on and on to greater and greater levels of faith, which at every level we gather greater and greater amounts of light and glory unto us.

Scriptures Overcome Contention

This morning I was wondering up with fighting children. I felt like going out there and getting mad at everyone for fighting, but the spirit had a different plan. I found myself rallying the children together for scripture study instead. It was amazing, because I just said whoever wants to do scripture study, come on, and they all came. Ashlyn had found a few scriptures she wanted to make quotes out of and so I thought it would be fun to do some scripture study and then make a few quotes from them. The below quotes are the fruits of our labors, and I am pleased to say that as we studied there was very little contention and a very peaceful feeling prevailed. Today was a testament to how the study of scriptures can overcome contention and invite the Spirit into the home.

Why do we doubt?

The story of Peter walking on water, then fearing the waves and thunder, and finally the Savior catching him up out of the water, has always been precious to me. The saviors words, “wherefore didst thou doubt?“ is a call and plea to all to put our trust in the Lord and doubt not that he is able to and will protect us from all hazard outside of His will for us. Sometimes we to falter and waiver in the midst of so much evidence like Peter, saw the Savior on the water, the Savior told him to come unto Him on the water, and he started to walk on the water. Now that’s a lot of evidence to put your trust in the Lord, and yet he feared, doubted, and faltered in his faith. The interesting thing, is that it simply does not have to be like this. The Scriptures are laid before us and we have access to the greatest power on earth or in heaven, even the light of Christ, and the power of the Holy Ghost, which is a third member of the Godhead.
