A surprise birthday cake (being presented to her at lunchtime today) for an outgoing, vivacious, fun loving lady turning 50!
The shoe is all edible and hand modelled. Silver dragees form the beading. The 2D 'bottle of wine' is from a well know SA Wine Estate as the birthday girl is fond of red wine :-)
This won a medal of excellence in Class B11 "Get ahead, get a hat", in the Lace Guild's 2007 competition.
There are seven 7s around the outside, and a further seven 7-shaped petals making the flower on top of the hat.
The button in the middle of the flower was made from beads by me.
I made this in a couple of hours one Christmas Eve as a gift for my Dad's girlfriend, who crazy-loved dragonflies. This is a scan; when it was framed and finished that night, the beading lay a bit more straight.
The finished piece is about 3.5" square.

I lie awake and string together words
just hoping they’ll still mean something in the morning.
As beads on a wire I string them, one by one
into bracelets and chains that I will wear daily
and by their distinct dangle and clink
the people will know what I mean to be.
All night I will lie awake here
as sobs sound nearby
and I am alone

Inonotus dryadeus, commonly known as oak bracket, warted oak polypore, weeping polypore or weeping conk, is an inedible species of fungus belonging to the genus Inonotus, which consists of bracket fungi with fibrous flesh. This is my first project on this beading loom. It's a celtic knot (see other photos in this set for more info). This is being beaded using size 8 seed beads and collapsible eye beading needle.
