As in other countries, in Japan there is a large community of enthusiastic beaders who love to create their own original jewellery – whether it is their own original designs or whether they take their cue from professional designers. Either way, beaders most often find inspiration and how-to instructions in specialized Japanese hobby magazines. The most popular beading magazine in Japan is Bead Friend. This year, Preciosa Ornela, together with its Japanese distributor, launched an extensive marketing campaign in Bead Friend. This seed beads jewellery is designed by famous Japanese designer Ms.Yoriko Sho (www.shoyoriko.com/). More about "Beading in Japan": preciosa-ornela.com/Beading-in-Japan

detail from artwork titled, "a blossom fell" - metal enameling, glass, beading

my artist's statement -

born of fire, yet cool to the touch, enamels are the ancient marriage of glass and metal. flowing one moment and fused the next into a fragile yet enduring permanence, enamel has been a friend and the cornerstone of my art for many years. more recently, the incorporation of mixed media [painting, printmaking, etching, found objects, natural materials] has broadened the scope and texture of my fire-stories. viewers are invited to creatively participate by continuing what i have begun - to find their story within mine, to consider what is there and - what is not there. remembering well the truths that weave a universal thread througout our lives, i choose to honor the person, the place, the heart of the matter that keeps us moving forward. i celebrate the journey. 'see the birds with their unfettered freedom, she said, creativity is like this for me & making art is a close as i will ever come to flying.' (a photography note - in the last year, i have seriously embarked on this photo journey that is both exhilarating and in tandem with the artwork i have always done. the above statement speaks to this medium as well.)

Custom order for an iPhone text message style piece. Everything I know about iPhone messaging I learned from The Avengers Shouldn't Text, but I think it turned out decent.

Also, my dad didn't understand it, which made me happy.

2 hole beads are great for jewelry designers

Ralph Ziman aka Afrika 47, the South African born artist and movie director, has done powerful artworks in Jozi and Cape Town over the years which includes the largest wheat-paste in the world -http://www.graffitisouthafrica.com/2014/10/17/news-resistance-project-by-ralph-ziman-worlds-largest-wheatpaste/

His latest project Spoek1 - re-imagining a Casspir armoured troup carrier into a stunning work of art is nearing completion in a Selby warehouse. Over a ton of Czechoslovakian beads were used by a team of skilled crafters to turn a vehicle associated with fear and loathing into, hopefully a beacon of hope.

After having this beauty planted in my chest for my chemo infusions, I decided to do something interesting with it when it was removed...so I beaded it...added a swarovski crystal and a tiny peacock feather at the top...I occasionall wear it as a pendant, especially in may, which was the month of my diagnosis 5 years ago...
