I made this for Johanna to celebrate her exciting career changes.

 

These jewel tones look like jewels in sparkly glass (hey, I wonder if there is a connection there). The red butterflies are also glass.

Indigenous Beading: We're beading the turtle from the creation story known as Skywoman. This creation story is shared by many Indigenous people in North America, including Potawatomi, Mohawk, Haudenosaunee, Oneida. The land we're on in Bloomington is part of the Potawatomi's ancestral homelands. The beading technique we're using for the turtle shell is called "return stitch." It is a relatively new form of appliqué beading and a simplification of two-needle appliqué as it only requires one needle.

 

I had to rearrange my beading room (ie: the dining room) as mum moved out (lol) and took her furniture. So this is my new (albeit temporary) look. I like it so far. :)
