A Panamax on the beach. The 'PASHA BULKER' now 'THE DRAKE' failed to heed warnings of a serious storm on 8th June 2007, At the time she was anchored off the coast of Newcastle, waiting for a cargo of coal along with another 55 ships. 45 of the ships headed seawards, the other 10 rode it out at anchor.
Of the ships that headed to sea at least two came into danger of running aground. Two Newcastle harbour tugs 'Wickham' and Watagan' put to sea in 15 metre waves to attempt to keep the two off the beach with success.
On the beach in the background but behind the PB are the remains of Australia's largest ship wreck. That ship was the 'Sygna', a 53,000 tonne Norwegian bulk carrier on its maiden voyage, washed ashore while attempting to get underway in 90 knot winds, generated by a similar storm, known as an 'East Coast Bomb' in May, 1974.
We paid a visit to lovely southern beach in the weekend, apart from this guy surfing by himself; we thought he might have been a beginner who didn't want an audience but he seemed to know what he was about; and a couple of other walkers we had the beach to ourselves.

Day on the beach., but no ice cream or sunbathing for us!
Instead camera's in hand we went off in search of waders (and anything else that came along of course)
And we were not disappointed!
I used to think waders were a bit boring., but actually they are far from it
And I've most definitely changed my mind
If you're interested in 'things with wings' this Godwit flying low across the sand is as impressive a sight as you'll find anywhere., and we'll be back for more!

Fog retreats to the shoreline above a curving beach near Point Sur.
This is the same location where I made a couple of other recently posted photographs — a spot along the Pacific Coast Highway not far from the town of Big Sur, where a long, curving beach runs out toward a peninsula that has long been the home to an iconic California light house.
Much to my surprise, I encountered really beautiful conditions on this morning visit to the area. The forecast had called for essentially clear conditions, but I was instead greeted by a persistent fog bank that remained right along the coast, stubbornly intruding into the hills in some locations, while pulling back and allowing sunlight over the ocean in others. This scene was dynamic as I photographed it, with the fog intermittently rising and falling or drifting across this scene, located near the delta of a river that empties into the Pacific near the small hill sitting on the beach.

This picture was taken at Berriedale Beach which is on the Scottish north east coast. This is where Berriedale Water flows into the sea.
Returning to Harlech beach and a combination of colour that I think complement each other rather well. The perfectly still waters of the reflection and sand ripples were the draw along with the interesting sky.

My elder daughter and I visited Fifty Beach today, but the old piers are still buried in the ice. So here's an image from a visit back in January when the ice was only four feet thick and the lake was still visible in the background

Images are composite images combining approx 176 shots all taken at 2.5 second intervals making an over all exposure time of approximately 7 minutes to create the cloud movement.

Hey gang. Hope you had a great Christmas day. Boxing day marks the start of a great migration here in Australia. Thousands of majestic station wagons make the long journey from urban centres to rural ones with occasional stops for a KFC and a wee. On arrival at the teeming holiday-grounds, their first port of call is usually the small local IGA shop where they will comment on how expensive the bread is. Having put up a tent or pitched a caravan or booked into a hotel, the older members of the party will then usually crack open a bottle of something alcoholic and the younger ones will complain about how poor the 4G internet is. Traditionally there will be a small (but heated) row and then everyone will go for a walk on the beach, which has healing and restorative effects. Over the course of the holiday, the mood will slowly become increasingly relaxed and remain so until the return leg, which is fraught with its own unique dangers, such as a malfunctioning air conditioning unit in the car and 10km traffic jams. Personally I will not be migrating anywhere during the summer holidays, but will be enjoying sunrises like this one a couple of mornings ago, on Seven Mile Beach. If you're heading this way, look for a fat bloke in Crocs with a camera and smelling heavily of Aerogard and you've probably found me :)

Whitehave Beach Inlet - Whitsunday, Queensland Australia.
It was a hot midday bright day. The atmosphere was quite hazy, so this was the best capture I managed through the 'not so' clear perspex window of the seaplane. What about that guy kite surfing? He must have thought he was in heaven.
A beautiful beach on Sintra's Municipality. Huge fosilized walls, a long and wide beach often offers wonderful photos, so different each time I went there. Just a magical place.
Sandwood Bay up in the very north west corner of Scotland. Cape Wrath is the last headland in the distance.
