Ruby Beach, Olympic National Park
Washington
This sunset was taken at Ruby Beach, part of a set of beaches that are within Olympic National Park. The rock outcroppings and sea stacks are unique to each area of the coast. By choosing different tides and times of years, opportunities for composition at these ocean sites are unlimited!
This is a photo of patterns in the sand at Clam Harbour Beach created by the tide and water flowing in a shallow stream.
Crescent Beach is tucked between the traditional tourist attractions of St. Augustine and Matanzas Inlet to the south.
Locals love Crescent Beach because it is wide, has convenient parking, and isn't as congested as many beaches tend to be. Because it is in the southern end of Florida’s Historic Coast, it maintains an “old Florida” vibe as a quieter beach with white sand and located in a mostly residential area.
The beach at Kassiesbaai is on the wrong side of the little peninsula, getting all the driftwood and detritus from the Southern Ocean. That is, of course, why it is such a good fishing port. One can tell just from looking that, in the dark days of apartheid, this would have been the "non-whites" beach.
Kassiesbaai is a little hamlet on the outskirts of the really quite small village of Arniston/Waenhuiskrans near Cape Auglhas. A little fishing village with a predominantly Cape Coloured population, Kassiesbaai gets its name from the packing crates or "kassies" in Afrikaans slang from the many shipwrecks on this stretch of coast which the early inhabitants used to build their houses. There are some lovely limewashed stone houses here too, and the hamlet is now a South African National Heritage site.

They are so cheerful and attractive, here in more detail.
I love rainbow-coloured beach-huts, the patterns, the colours, the textures, everything...

This is a photo of a wet, wave washed beach rock reflecting the evening light, and the in-rushing surf at Martinique Beach.
San Gregorio State Beach, California
We're standing on an eroded bluff, watching the sun set behind a line of clouds. The surf is lazily washing up on the sandy beach. Another visitor to the beach walks past below us.
