Batik vest with Dendrobates sp. frogs for my mother-in-law. The frogs are reverse applique on the outer batik layer. The overall quilting is basically a meander and a bit of echo. The botton loops are made from black hair elastics. My husband custom made the button out of red-heart.

Started cutting this out this morning at 10:00 done by 4:30....still needs to be assembled. Need to look at it for awhile in case any blocks need to be moved. My husband says it's dark and needs a light border....I think he's wrong about the light border....but it is dark, not all quilts are light and bright.
The cloth is then dyed with a desired colour and boiled to remove the wax. The waxed portion of the material remains white (or its base colour), the cloth is then dried.

A minha obra "Bossa Café, Nova Journal - 50 anos de Bossa", um batik sobre seda, traduz-se numa brincadeira com os nomes dos Ãcones sagrados desse movimento tão marcante na história da música brasileira.
My first "Birdie Sling" bag, for my sister. Made from two batik florals, same inside and out. I reduced the pattern to 78% on our copier, and sewed with a 3/8" seam. Also added length to the strap and omitted the fusible fleece.
Batik is a method of decorating cloth by using wax to resist the dye. Hot wax is drawn onto cloth in the desired design. The wax cools and hardens. The fabric is placed in a dyebath but where the wax covers the fabric no dye reaches it, so the colour does not take effect. The wax is then removed. This process is sometimes repeated with a number of different colours. Because solid wax can be brittle the maker sometimes cracks it to allowing seepage of dye, producing fine lines. Can you see cracks on this piece? Once the waxing and dyeing is finished the remaining wax is removed revealing the design.

Real batik resist dying is done in textile centers all over India. The ornament has a distinctive craquelure finish that confirms it's authenticity. Wax is applied to the sari as a resist, and the patterns emerge through numerous wax application and dyeing steps
