Batik is a traditional Indonesian wax-resist dyeing technique. On October 2nd 2009 it was designated as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
On the 14 Nov the World Diabetes Logo was painted as a traditional Malaysian batik , which was painted by Sunway Medical Centre's patients.
The finished WDD logo design will be given to the Malaysian Diabetic Association on the 19 Nov 2011 as a gift at our World Diabetes Day Public Forum. Unite Malaysia for WDD.!

An art of decorating sarees using wax and dye, Batik printing is a wonderful creative medium that is appreciated and practiced all over the world. A craft that is being practiced for centuries, derives its name from Javanese word tik which means ‘to dot’ or Ambatik that stands for a piece of cloth with small dots or writing with wax or drawing in broken lines. In India, the origin of Batik can be traced back to the 1st century AD and the artisans were the Khatri community of Gujarat. Historically the most expressive and subtle of the resist methods, the process of making Batik involves selecting areas of the cloth that are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over them, and then dyeing the cloth. This way the parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour. This process of waxing and dyeing can be repeated to create more elaborate and colourful designs. After the final dyeing, the wax is removed and the Batik print saree is ready for wearing. Contemporary batik prints while owing much to the past are markedly different from the more traditional and formal styles with use of etching, discharge dyeing, stencils, different tools for waxing and dyeing and wax recipes with different resist values and is done on a variety of fabric like cottons, silks and georgette.

Batik merupakan satu bidang kraftangan yang unggul di Malaysia. Sejak abad ke 15 Masihi lagi manusia telah menemui kaedah pembuatan batik secara tradisional. Pada masa dahulu, masyarakat Melayu menggunakan ubi kentang sebagai alat pengecap tetapi kini kain batik telah diusahakan dengan menggunakan alat-alat moden. Batik mula diperkenalkan di negara kita khususnya di negeri Kelantan sejak tahun 1910 lagi. Batik berasal dari Indonesia dan terbit dari perkataan Jawa 'tik' yang bermaksud menitik atau menulis titik-titik. Ambatik pula bermaksud melukis, menulis, mewarna atau menitik. Di alam Melayu, sejenis batik yang dipanggil Batik Pelangi telah diperkenalkan sejak tahun 1770-an lagi. Di Malaysia kebanyakan kilang perusahaan batik banyak terdapat di Kelantan dan Terengganu.
Proses mewarna memainkan peranan penting dalam proses menghasilkan batik yang cantik dan indah. Pada awalnya, warna-warna semulajadi digunakan secara meluas dalam pembuatan batik. Kemudian pelbagai warna telah digabung seperti campuran warna yang kontra, gelap dan cerah danpelbagai teknik warna diaplikasikan untuk mewarna batik. Antara teknik-teknik batik adalah Teknik Alfa, Teknik Semburan Angin (Air Brush), Teknik Menarik.
