One of the shot I took in Jogjakarta was at Batik Plentong workshop. They had this great workshop where tourists / people who are interested in knowing how batik are made and crafted.

61.Karnival Batik Solo (Solo Batik Carnival), Central Java. Solo Batik Carnaval is an event which is held yearly since 2008. The first Solo Batik Carnaval was in 12-13 April 2008. Solo is also known as one of Indonesia's best city for finding batik. There are 247 contestants, and there are 3 criterias of winning character, costume, stamina.
Batik is a traditional craft in Indonesia and Malaysia. It is an art of dyeing woven cloth by using a wax compound to cover parts of the cloth which are not to be dyed. The origin of Batik printing dates back 2,000 years and is believed to come to Indonesia from India.
A common Batik garment is the & quot; kain sarong" which is worn by fruits are commonly portrayed in stylized forms on the Batik.
Batik is a Malay term for variegated leaves. This is dedicated especially to inter-specific cultivars of large uniform patches of gold/cream at the edge of the greyish green leaves. Well-known representative is Raspberry Ice and to-date, we have seen almost all inter-specific cultivar with the similar batik leaves, including Ladybird.
But note there's another uniform type of batik with just marginal cream/gold derived from the original batik. Because the centre green chlorophyll in the leaves are more, these batik II are easier to strive than the original one and less prone to leaf-spot.

A metal block is dipped into molten wax and then impressed onto a white piece of cloth which is laid over a mattress composed of layered banana palm trunks (Wax is applied to protect previous colourations).
Batik vest with Dendrobates sp. frogs for my mother-in-law. The frogs are reverse applique on the outer batik layer. The overall quilting is basically a meander and a bit of echo. The botton loops are made from black hair elastics. My husband custom made the button out of red-heart.

it's been a long time since i'd last shoot her.
I came up with the idea of doing a photoshoot
based on the malay culture and tradition.

This is my first hand at batik... I was really impressed by a book on batik.. it had this pattern and lot more.. but what i did turned out different than what it was in the book... I am quite liking batik now....
