Batik

I'm not usually one for batiks (especially browns and blacks!) but this was a gift and suited the recipient perfectly. I think the pattern and color scheme make batiks look downright modern here.

Zhoucheng village, also known as the home town of tie dyeing of the Bai ethnic group, is 23 kilometres away from the north of the Ancient City of Dali, and 38 kilometres away from Xiaguan town. With more than 8,000 Bai people inhabiting this village, Zhoucheng Village is the largest village in Dali where the Bai ethnic group lives, covering an area of 4,700 square metres

Tie dye is a traditional craft dating back to the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty. Tie dyed production combines culture and art perfectly, which is usually made from knit or woven fabric after tying and dying.

Real batik resist dying is done in textile centers all over India. The ornament has a distinctive craquelure finish that confirms it's authenticity. Wax is applied to the sari as a resist, and the patterns emerge through numerous wax application and dyeing steps

I really didn't know which to choose but I did choose a deep red one from this shop and it made the empty space up there.

This shop specializes in batik: Bian Swee Hin & Co, located at 107 Arab Street. Didn't know where to find batik in Singapore, I took a trip to Arab Street and asked around the shopkeepers there who directed us here.
