The addition of modern elements, including polished, rectangular hinge ends and an ever-so-slight base curve give this old world design a contemporary confidence. The Miles are perfect for work and for play.

Barksdale Air Force Base

Bossier Parish, LA

Listed: 04/13/1992

Barksdale is of state significance in the area of architecture as one of Louisiana's most important examples of early twentieth century eclectic (period) architecture, the prevailing American architectural trend of that day.

The trend towards reviving historic styles for use in modern design has its roots in the French Beaux Arts system. In the nineteenth century, students at the Ecole des Beaux Arts were taught to work in a variety of historical styles with a fair degree of accuracy. Quotation from well known monuments of the past in new designs was taken as a sign of cultivation rather than poverty of invention. This spirit of learnedly imitating the past came to America in the later nineteenth century in the form of academic schools of architecture, professional publications, and a more discriminating clientele. Increasingly, clients were demanding designs in this or that particular historical style. Of course, some of this was a natural desire for more order in architecture after the chaotic excesses of the Queen Anne Revival.

Perhaps the greatest tour de force eclectic architecture could achieve was a large and evocative complex of buildings unified and distinguished by a consistent "period" treatment. Examples include World's Fairs, academic campuses, governmental complexes, resort complexes, and rural estates. In Louisiana, complexes of this ilk are pretty much limited to college campuses (for example, the Italian Renaissance LSU campus), although there are a few major exceptions (most notably the Louis XV style Veterans Hospital complex at Alexandria and Barksdale).

Of the dozen or so twentieth century eclectic architectural complexes in Louisiana, Barksdale is important because it is by far the largest, with over 250 buildings. (The others are in the 10-50 building range.) In addition, Barksdale is one of two with a Beaux Arts axial layout.

Three Iraqi patients were aeromedically transported from Balad to the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad and returned from there to their homes. AirDrain Installed under Pavers on Walkway at the Oklahoma City Downtown Pedestrian Parkway 180

Oklahoma City has been receiving a facelift lately with the MAPS Program. With all of the improvements along the Oklahoma City River and a booming entertainment district in Bricktown, Downtown OKC has many projects that will make traffic and pedestrian travel easier.

One of the projects in Downtown OKC is the Pedestrian Parkway 180 near the Devon Tower. This will allow pedestrians to have access to multiple buildings from the parking garages and a shorter route from building to building while adding beauty to the downtown area.

Drainage in an area that is mostly hardscaped is typically a HUGE issue, but with AirDrain providing a 1” void beneath the whole parkway any drainage needs are met and exceeded! When the AirDrain is installed below paver stones it not only allows water to flow to the exit drains, it also provides a strong platform for the pavers to lay evenly on. With no large unsightly drainage grates in the foot path for people to trip over or fall in.

Approximately 17,000 sqft. of pavers installed by Elevated Paver Systems completely covers the AirDrain beneath all of the landscape and hardscape features. This means the 1” of air hidden below can drain over 171 inches of rain an hour!

AirDrain grid also provides stabilization, allows for water lines, electrical lines and even radiant heat tubing can be installed below the surface.

Here is the ASTM D4716 Flow Rate per Unit Width and Hydraulic Transmissivity Testing for actual drainage capacity, at a 1/2% slope. The AirDrain will actually drain 171 inches per hour.

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson holds a Senior Noncommissioned Officer Induction ceremony featuring guest speaker retired Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley, in Anchorage, Alaska, August 8, 2019. This time-honored tradition celebrates the newest master sergeants and the concept of leadership through service as they transition from the noncommissioned officer to senior noncommissioned officer tier. McKinley visited JBER as part of an immersion into the 3rd Wing and the 673d Air Base Wing as well as mission familiarization for the Combined Headquarters, Alaskan Command and the 11th Air Force mission. A medium, silvered, base metal coin struck in the name of and portraying the Roman emperor Maximianus I "Herculeus", 286- 308 AD. Here he is wearing a radiate crown.

The reverse depicts Jupiter, the king of the gods and patron of the emperors, holding out a small Victory to the emperor, celebrating Concord with the Military.

References include RIC 595, which attributes these markings to Heraclea, Thrace, from 292- 295 AD, but does not list a draped and cuirassed bust, seen from any angle, and does not list an officina E. I also assume that it's an exergual dot on the left touching the line.
