With a little careful adjustment the focusing is buttery-smooth! A great feature of using an acme screw rather than a traditional rack and pinion is that focus remains securely locked wherever you leave it. No additional knobs to tighten, just focus with the big knob and leave it - it will NOT move. There isn't even any backlash! Of course the drawer slides play a significant role in both the great extent and great stability of the focus movement. They do add some weight, but they sure work well.

Family, friends and employers join approximately 160 Soldiers from the Virginia National Guard’s Staunton-based 116th Brigade Combat Team Headquarters at the Richmond Convention Center May 20 to conduct a Freedom Salute in honor of their service in Afghanistan. Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Marla Graff Decker joined Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long, Jr., the Adjutant General of Virginia, in thanking the Soldiers for their service and also presented a certificate of recognition signed by Gov. Bob. McDonnell. The Soldiers officially began federal active duty May 15, 2011, and they served in Afghanistan from July 2011 to January 2012. They trained at Camp Shelby, Miss, for approximately 60 days prior to deploying to Afghanistan, and they mobilized with just 60 days notice. The unit served as headquarters for Combined Team Zabul where they conducted full-spectrum counterinsurgency operations in Zabul Province in southeast Afghanistan, a region nearly the size of the State of New Jersey. The 116th BCT Headquarters was the first time a National Guard brigade commanded all Active Duty and NATO maneuver forces, as well as National Guard support forces in Afghanistan. The 116th BCT Headquarters planned and executed more than 150 lethal and non-lethal missions to include 11 air assault missions, and units serving under the 116th found 50 enemy supply and ordnance caches, detained more than 150 insurgents and found 350 IEDs. The Freedom Salutes also recognized approximately 20 Soldiers from the Bowling Green-based Detachment 1, Company B, 116th Brigade Special Troops Battalion. On ops with the OMLT from Patrol Base Talibjan - 21 Dec 2009
Based near Musa Qala in the north of Helmand, a small team of 2 YORKS soldiers live and work alongside Afghan National Army warriors.
Their patrol base is only two kilometres from what is called the FLET or Forward Line Enemy Troops. It is somewhere you need to be vigilant at all times.
Each day they patrol the surrounding area talking to the locals, meeting with the Afghan National Police and reassuring their rural community with a ‘hearts and minds’ campaign.
On the 21 December, the British and ANA soldiers set off at dawn on a operation to clear a string of compounds used by the Taliban to lay IEDs.
The team was there to intentionally probe the Taliban, to test their positions and to test their resolve. To ensure they had the upper hand they brought in support.
Once the Taliban took the ANA and British troops they tried to out flank them, but the troops pushed out Scimitar light tanks and the armoured Mastiffs broke cover.
As the Taliban were pushed back an RAF Tornado flew in low drowning out every noise in its wake.
The team pushed back the Taliban, swept through their compounds and captured a raft of components destined to make deadly IEDs, the improvised explosive devices that soldiers here fear more than anything else.

I'm on some sort of mission to document the ecology and destruction of the bluffs... It started with the disgusting state of the bluffs at the top, near the lookout. Then I decided to take a walk on this path, something I haven't done in over a year and realised the sheer erosion and change in the bluffs. Bluffs erosion has always been an issue (as it's a natural thing, especially since the bluffs are not made of rock). You can even see on Google maps where people's homes are sliding down...
I just thought it was important to see what's happening down below.
Expect more of these types of photos as I continue this little project.
This operator is leaving King County Metro's East base to go relieve another operator. The relief points are usually at terminals, although sometimes they occur midway along the route. The relieved operator will then drive this car back to the base. This method is cheaper than deadheading (driving empty) two coaches to and from the base.
