Public Kitchen & Bar features a menu of eclectic American fare from Executive Chef Tim Goodell. The re-imagined dining hall features loft-inspired design which provides a lighter, brighter space highlighted by butcher block tables, 1960's library chairs, and diamond-tufted banquettes. At the room’s center, a three-sided, marble topped bar offers creative cocktails, a moderately priced 100 bottle wine list, beers by draft and bottle, and an assortment of cured meats and cheeses.

The Temple Bar in Dublin

Temple Bar, the signature of Dublin. Tourists may think Temple Bar means the pub only. However, Temple Bar is an area in Dublin. There are lots of restaurants, pubs and Irish cultures institutes. There was a free movie broadcast when I visited the Meeting House Square on Sunday evening. Gallery of Photography and Irish Flim Institute can be found in this area.

Bluejacket, Washington, D.C.

The Bar Convent, York. The chapel was constructed in 1769, hidden within the house on the first floor and provided with eight exits and a concealled priest's hole as Catholicism was, at the time, illegal. It was designed by Thomas Atkinson. The Catholic Repeal Act of 1778 allowed the followers to practise their faith and in 1791 the chapel was granted a public licence to operate as a place of worship. It was restored in 2015 and the convent is a Grade 1 listed building.

City of York, Yorkshire, England - the Bar Convent Chapel, Blossom Street

January 2018

Spent part of this afternoon in The Oxford bar, which is where Edinburgh-based author Ian Rankin often has his fictional Detective Rebus drink in his novels (and indeed Ian is a regular face at the bar). Good, solid pub, nothing fancy, just a good old-fashioned pub with some decent ales and also dog-friendly, so in there with chum and his hounds for a pleasant couple of hours. Tucked away down narrow cobbled street between the busier main road in the Georgian era New Town so despite its literary fame it isn't usually over-run with tourists.

Day 185 - First day of Bars + Bokeh. This was taken at Finn's Lounge in Wichita, KS in the Old Town District . The area has a bunch of historic buildings and warehouses that have been converted into clubs and restaurants and it reminds me a little of the Gaslamp District in San Diego, minus the people. It was real abandoned.

On June 25, our 33rd Annual Young Alumni Summer Reunion was held. More than 300 young alumni were in attendance to enjoy an afternoon of at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como, NJ with fellow Pirates.

There were no azaleas in bloom in this exquisite small garden when I stopped in one morning in early August just at daybreak, but the perfection of its design and careful grooming were still in evidence.

From the website:

"The beauty of the Azalea Garden changes and evolves throughout the year. A flowering cherry tree heralds the start of the season in mid-May, followed by azaleas and rhododendrons in many hues in late May through June. July blooms include Japanese iris, smoke bush, rosebay rhododendron, and the fragrant sweet azalea. August is quiet and serene, accented by blooming water lilies, and in September and October the garden glows with the colors of fall.

Rhododendrons and azaleas are planted throughout the garden, and many are native to the mountainous regions of the world. The Pink Shell Azalea, Rhododendron vaseyi, is native to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and provides much of the garden’s structure. It grows alongside Rhododendron kiusianum from the mountains of Japan and Rhododendron canadense, Maine's own native azalea.

Charles K. Savage, a life-long resident of Northeast Harbor and owner of the Asticou Inn, designed and built the Asticou Azalea Garden in 1956. He was inspired by his love of native plants, his study of Japanese garden design, and his desire to preserve the plant collection of Beatrix Farrand. When Mrs. Farrand decided to dismantle her Reef Point estate in Bar Harbor, Mr. Savage garnered financial support from John D. Rockefeller Jr. to purchase the plants and build the Asticou Azalea Garden and the Thuya Garden in Northeast Harbor.

The Azalea Garden is styled after a Japanese stroll garden with many traditional Japanese design features adapted for the natural setting and vegetation of coastal Maine. A meandering circular path leads visitors through a succession of garden rooms that inspire serenity and reflection or bring to focus a particularly lovely vista. The garden's design creates an illusion of space, of lakes and mountains and distant horizons. A "sand garden" constructed along the eastern edge of the stream, uses rocks and raked sand to suggest islands and flowing water. The contrast of the sand garden next to the stream enhances the beauty and character of each.

An important aspect of a Japanese Garden is its balance of natural and man-made beauty. Mr. Savage's sensitive use of natural vegetation, stones, and water in combination with azaleas, rhododendrons, and other specimen plants from Reef Point achieve this lovely balance, and the result is a wonderful blend of East and West."

Tucked away on 7310 Harry Hines Blvd, is the former "Ladies Bar".

I have no idea why it's not there anymore; after all, most ladies I know enjoy throwing a few back from time to time.

Cheers!
