I baked a lot this afternoon. Biscotti for us, everything else in advance for a brunch this weekend. I felt most efficient. And putting the biscotti in a glass jar makes me feel like I live in a coffee shop

I had some hopelessly stale sourdough lying around that I didn't want to throw away. I figured french toast would be relatively easy on my still queasy stomach, so I whipped together some eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla, poured it on the bread, let it soak a bit, and stuck it in the oven. I should have let it soak longer than half an hour, and I probably would have preferred stale french bread instead, but in all, not bad for an unmeasured randomly whipped up concoction! Soft and flavorful with a crunchy top. Yum!

My 1st try with Peter Reinhart's French bread recipe from "The Bread Baker's Apprentice". I baked them on a pizza stone at 450F for 20 minutes until the inner temperature reached at 205F. The outside crust was crisp and crunchy, and the crumb was soft and moist, not tough or gummy at all like some of the store-bought French breads.
