Does exactly what it says on the tin

Sabrina has been working hard in the kitchen baking cookies for a holiday party. The poor quality is because of my camera phone.

I made cookies, cuz it had been way too long since the last batch! I go into baking withdrawls, sometimes, and it must be fixed right away! lol. :)

Baked for the Super Bowl party I went to, where we played board games, ate lots and lots of cheese and then drank tea and ate cookies during the power outage. I used the smitten kitchen oatmeal raisin recipe, except I swapped in craisins and instead of vanilla, which I was out of, I added a little fresh-squeezed orange juice and the zest of an orange. DELICIOUS.

Bake until you think it's ready-- you want a nice crispy golden exterior and hot melty cheese inside. I did 30 minutes at 325, because 325 is about all my oven will do.

Baked potatoes with toppings and an egg baked right inside!

The oven was on... so why not make three dozen gingerbread, a dozen buns - to be made into "fairy cakes", four individual apple sponges to be served with custard, bread buns and a cheese loaf! - which is, by the way, yummy!

Düsseldorf Hassels

Baked Film, 5 minutes at 220º Celsius

With a very nice magenta-touch. ;o)

Cranberry bars and olive oil cake. I was in some weird baking mood.

1 pound dried Great Northern beans

1 pound bacon, chopped

1 onion, chopped

2 jalapenos, chopped

1/4 cup tomato paste

1/4 cup dark brown sugar

1/4 cup molasses

Vegetable broth

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon black pepper

2 teaspoons kosher salt

Heat oven to 250 degrees F.

Soak beans in a plastic container overnight in just enough cold water to submerge them completely.

Place a cast iron Dutch oven over medium heat and stir in the bacon, onion, and jalapenos until enough fat has rendered from the bacon to soften the onions, about 5 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste, dark brown sugar, and molasses.

Drain the beans and reserve the soaking liquid. Add the drained beans to the Dutch oven. Place the soaking liquid in a measuring cup and add enough vegetable broth to equal 4 cups of liquid. Add the liquid to the Dutch oven and bring to a boil over high heat. Add in cayenne, black pepper and salt. Give them a stir and cover with the lid. Place the Dutch oven in the oven for 6 to 8 hours, or until the beans are tender.

While cleaning up the kitchen tonight, I couldn't fit anything more on the top shelf of my cooking cabinet, so I tidied it up. The bottom shelf are spices (the frequently-used are stuck to the side of the fridge with magnets), the middle shelf is sweet treats, and the top shelf is baking items.

The 'apple' pie is actually a Michael's pie candle purchased for a $1, the cake with a slice cut out is by me, and I also made the canned peas.

Sticking to my mum's Saturday baking tradition I did some Easter baking today.

This variety of the Finnish 'pulla' (see also www.flickr.com/photos/rosipaw/4314811702/ ) is filled with one of our typical dairy products. It's translated as 'quark' in dictionaries but I haven't managed to find exactly the same consistency outside Finland. I know Russians use something very similar for their Easter 'paskha'.

The fact that I only bake these particular buns once a year for Easter makes them extra yummy. Traditions are important in bringing some permanence into the hectic and constantly changing world.

what can i say, it's a great repeat breakfast. this time baked with dates instead of sugar and topped with yogurt and maple syrup.

There were textural issues with this that I want to try to tweak, but the flavor was good.
