A stitched panorama taken in my backyard. The apartments across the newly-constructed lake were not complete at this point, so there are no lights.
Lots of work on the backyard this weekend. Nate transplanted 3 large azaleas, leveled the soil, and planted 4 raspberry bushes. The bulk of his work was in the dark, rain, and even snow! Moey dug one of the large transplant holes, filled holes, and hauled a bunch of heavy rocks. Only 20+ plants remaining to install!

CBS News Correspondent Ben Tracy notes that it was one of about 20 exotic animals kept inside the owner's backyard "menagerie."

Backyard trees at my parent's house in Magnolia Wood, Baton Rouge at dusk. The fading light darkens the shapes of the trees to a nearly single pattern set against the graying yet still light sky.
The creek in our backyard is my favorite place. It is a cool place to sit for a while and enjoy the sights and sounds.
The foreground is my backyard, over the fence you'll see my neighbour also has rinks in his backyard.
Have a White-winged Dove that shows up in the backyard once or twice a week lately. Seems to be a li'l more alert and timid than the other doves.
The other day I was on the phone with a friend of mine discussing the sale of our house when I noticed that this swallowtail came in to feed on our backyard phlox. I snagged the camera and finished the conversation with him while lying on the ground in my backyard snapping away at this bug. The irony of this is that I had spent the entire day driving around looking for some new dragons or other bugs and had completely struck out only to find this right back home a few feet one of my favorite places to sit when I have long phone call.
I hope that you have all been having a fun and safe holiday. I have mixed emotions about the Fourth mostly because of the amount of drunken pyrotechnics that can accompany some celebrations. Fortunately, our place is relatively remote and our close neighbors are not prone to blowing stuff up.
Another aspect to the coming of this date every year is that it represents that another year has passed since MK's friend, Mary Beth, had to experience the death of her son when he was caught behind the car of one her relatives. This marks 15 years since his death and I hope that she can reminisce about the happiness he brought during the short time she had with him (I believe that he was 4 years old at the time of his death). I often wonder what it must be like to be so far removed by time from such a tragic event. I can't imagine that it is any easier after all that time but I can't imagine that it could be any harder either. However her day passes today, though, I hope that she can think of him and smile at least once.
Just a gathering with friends and family. This poker night was filled with smiles as the stakes got high.
