Noah was so proud to have a backpack just like Oliver did.

Everyone has a place or two that they want to keep secret. This is definitely one of ours. Paul and I went back to an old stomping grounds for a week long backpacking trip to celebrate his 50th birthday. Our original route was cancelled due to a fire in the area, but Plan B turned out great. We caught some cutthroats, saw 5 black bear, 5 rattlesnakes, osprey, eagles, big Chinook salmon and the Perseid meteor showers. The weather was warm for carrying heavy packs, but at least a couple rain storms drenched us. There was a microburst that came through the area one afternoon, like a freight train, that had us watching multiple trees busting over. Luckily the tall cedars, douglas firs and ponderosa pines at our camp bent, but did not break. An awesome trip in an amazing place with a great friend.

This little backpack is one of the first things I ever knitted. It's also the first pattern I completely made up. I needed a bag to carry knitting in. So I knitted one, which seems poetic, doesn't it?

This little backpack is from Stitch 'n Bitch, although I modified the intarsia so it would be a cat instead of a rabbit. Zipper on the top with pink leopard print lining. The whiskers are pink beads that I sewed on.

After 2 months of near-daily wearing, my backpack has molded itself to the shape of my back.

We picked up some new recruits and took a backpacking trip to Hidden Pond.

I recently put together a book for my dad that contained photographs of some of our many wilderness camps. I thought I would share some of those campviews and memories here.

Is it possible to find solitude in the wilderness over Memorial Day weekend? It was during our stay at Fletcher Canyon. I believe our original destination was Elk and Bunch Lakes via the Quinault River valley. Steep terrain turned us around. Fletcher Canyon was a spontaneously-picked, though quite lovely, place to make camp.

We added a little flair to my daughter's backpack for school this year with the Silhouette SD. We used flocked heat transfer material and then monogrammed it with her initial in rhinestones.
