Everyone has a place or two that they want to keep secret. This is definitely one of ours. Paul and I went back to an old stomping grounds for a week long backpacking trip to celebrate his 50th birthday. Our original route was cancelled due to a fire in the area, but Plan B turned out great. We caught some cutthroats, saw 5 black bear, 5 rattlesnakes, osprey, eagles, big Chinook salmon and the Perseid meteor showers. The weather was warm for carrying heavy packs, but at least a couple rain storms drenched us. There was a microburst that came through the area one afternoon, like a freight train, that had us watching multiple trees busting over. Luckily the tall cedars, douglas firs and ponderosa pines at our camp bent, but did not break. An awesome trip in an amazing place with a great friend.
Yours truly on the last day of a long backpacking trip in the Southern Sierras. We'd just made the last high pass on the way home.

The "Women Backpacking Together" Meetup met at the Caribou Lake Trailhead in the Caribou Wilderness in the middle of the night... around midnight. Lorrie and I were there around 7:30pm so after we put up our tent and built a fire, we warded off the bears by making a lot of noise. Four plus hours! We were up around 9am and out on the trail around 11am. Got to our camp at North Divide Lake around 3:30pm and set in for a cold night. Snow all around but we found a nice meadow to camp in.

On the last day of our backpacking trip, we packed up our camp below Puerto Nambe and strolled the last 4 miles back to the cars. We were sad to see it end, but happy to head home and share our memories with friends and family.
for R6 Mark II and RF200-800 lens.. So I just recently got into Canon because of the 200-800 lens availability. Sometimes I need to hike to places where I want to shoot, and there is no reason to have the kit dangling when it is still dark and I'm not going to use it yet. I did not want to put much money into a backpack for possibly low usage, and there are actually not a lot of backpacks out there that will fit the R6 Mark II and RF 200-800 Lens, in fact I found none (I have since found that the Ruggard Alpine 600 should work). So I stated looking for large enough backpacks that were not expensive.I found an Adidas Backpack on clearance for $16. I had already decided that a dense exercise mat could provide the needed padding. and I found one for $13. I also got a bottle of vinyl glue for $5.
Next step was actually build it. I wanted to be able to put the kit in from the top of the bag pointing down, preferably with the lens hood on. I knew that I did not want the lens hood to support the weight of the kit, so I decided the weight should be on the non removable tripod foot and a little on the front edge of the camera body. I Measured and cut the foam as I put it together. There is a piece of foam wrapped around the lens with a cutout for the tripod foot, the tripod foot then has another piece wrapped around it. Then there is another piece of foam going around the inside of the bag, which gives the bag some shape as well as an extra layer of protection, between the two main layers of foam, I stuck some other foam material in for stability and keeping shape. I have not actually used the bag in the field yet, just a little test at home. I will possibly add another piece of foam to the top.
I recently put together a book for my dad that contained photographs of some of our many wilderness camps. I thought I would share some of those campviews and memories here.
. . .
Do you see my tent? Certainly one of the more beautiful places we've camped.
Whenever I'm riding my bike I want drivers to be able to see me when the light is too low or the visibility distance is terrible. So I attached two strips of reflecting velcro tape (I stapled them on to my bag) on to my bag in an "X" shape so drivers will be able to see me and give me my space on the road.
