Young man with a hoodie and a backlight

Part of the new light kit I recently purchased included gel's for the background strobe. I played with it for a bit today as a backlight, rather than a background light. I like the effects! I used a new "Fantasy Cloth" backdrop, not so sure I'm liking that, to be honest but it was pink and it worked well with the red light. It's a textured type backdrop and I think I might have preferred something a little more flat.

the copper wire was hammered flat, tinned with solder, and positioned over the LED. The idea is that it keeps the LED from shining directly onto the diffuser/glass. The light is instead reflected off of the tinned surface of the wire and onto the tinned copper clad board. The goal was to diffuse the light and avoid the bright spots.

Image made on the southeast coast of the south island of New Zealand, at the famous Moeraki boulders. They're almost perfectly spherical, quite large boulders (called "concretions" by geologists). I don't know the young boy who climbed up on the boulder and looked out to sea, but I thought it was an interesting image.

Backlighting and silhouettes

This picture was shot with heavy backlight and has been slightly darkened

Just playing around with some backlighting techniques. I didn't think I was as happy with this one as I was with the others, but I actually really like it now that I look at it...

Should I do more of this?

Editorial work for a magazine article. This is a custom backlight application.

While this species is native along the coast as far north as SLO Co., these were planted and are thriving. The backlighting caught me. And thanks to Mike for reminding me of the name of this part of a composite inflorescence.

My example to day for the kids of what backlighting does.

The class went well; thanks for your input. I enjoyed it and I think the kids learned a thing or two but it's always hard to tell with kids.

I couldn't resist putting this girl in front of the window as i knew it would have a fun and dramatic effect.

Last night after dinner the backlight was very nice and I found one aspen leaf that didn't have blight ....LOL........most of my aspen have a lot of black leaves due to many rains this summer...they are a pretty tree, but really are disease prone from all all kinds of stuff.

this guy better turn...lookin' like he's ahhh...p***ing out to me

My cousin and I stopped to visit the farmer next door to the farm where I grew up. Age 85 now (in 2010), he is reminiscing about the old days to my cousin, and I was captivated by the backlighting.

For our daily challenge - Backlight

I was pleased to see this challenge come up then couldn't figure out how to do it without there being too much light!

This was done with a penlight in the dark, shining down on an "everyday" item :D

Hummingbird lunching with a interesting backlight in the composition.

My first attempt at backlighting.

Sometimes you don't have to go too fast through them!
