Experimenting with backilighting, using Lord Vader and his stormtroopers

The WPI Photography Club is finally back in business, and the first week's photo competition theme is backlighting. I came up with some shots using various car models as subjects and my desk lamp with a piece of paper taped over it as a light source.

Self portrait in the 'creepy alien or something' style. Just playing around with my wireless flash triggers.

The dance shooting I do is almost always during rehearsal, and the first (and only) time I see the show; have no idea what I'll see and if it'll look as it's supposed to.

I generally try and grab interesting moments to do with individual dancers instead of look for general shots, as I'm not there to generate publicity images, so the shoots can be both fun and fraught.

If you fail to tame the backlight, just try and use it.

Capturing autumn leaves in backlight. Not easy to keep the autumn colors, but I think this one is not so bad. :-)

Abstract pattern formed by opera-goers at intermission at Opera in the Park, Garner Park, Madison.

An experiment -- handheld with IS on, 200mm, ISO 400, 0.5 sec, f/5.6, -2.3 EV.

This is some manner of poppy head from a bunch of decorative dried display flowers that's been kicking round the house for ages. seemed like a relatively interesting looking subject for another indoor shot.

Lighting: Canon 540EZ on 1/4 power through softbox as background, Panasonic PE-388 on 1/2 power in softbox behind and slightly right of the camera. Both fired by radio trigger.
