With a dead backlight, there's no risk in having a go. The service manual is on the 770 for reference, because I'm not a hardware guy.

And massive contrast. Builtin fill flash on manual power (what else, it's a non-metering lens). That means the shutter wouldn't go over 1/500. Very, very respectable, one of d40's fun sides, but not enough to shut out natural light without stopping down.
So I got out the NDx4, boosted the flash a bit and could do f/4 :)
Pointless, maybe, but funny. It's not a filter I use a lot.
The object that i used is my necklace. There are 3 different shapes, a square , a triangle and a circle. Me and my classmate shot this picture in front of the big windows on the 3rd floor.
The lighting technique that we used was backlighting. We achieved this by holding the necklace up in front of the window to get the light.
If i could of done anything differently I would of used more contrast and color to highlight the lighting.
