Retro, during the 1990s, referred to a new genre of music, particularly dance music, popular in the U.S. at the time and originally termed New Wave music which was in part an outgrowth of the Punk rock genre of the late 1970s and early 1980s and Psychedelic genre of the late 1960s.
I have tried this shot before but the wind was blowing pretty hard. Today the snow was gently falling. Perfect for this shot.

In the last few years, as more bonsai enthusiasts photograph their trees, there has been discussion of what color background to use to best show the trees to their best advantage: black or white.
To add to the discussion, I took the photo of my chojubai white (see previous post) and changed the background from white to black.
I think the black background produces an overall more “contrasty” image. The flowers, in particular, here lose some of their midtones and thus, some of their range of color. This is true even of white flowers which admittedly begin at one end of the “contrasty” range.
Whichever background you use in your pictures, remember that sometimes full color ranges won’t serve you as well as one high in contrast.
