Three Alaska railroad GP's prepare to load out the rest of the ARMS barge on a typical Whittier day. Cold, wet, and foggy pretty much sums up this all season port with the original military era housing standing in the background. One of the neat things about the Whittier switch stands is that they all are some how lit at the same time in this shot and no its not photoshopped. After loading is complete these three Gp's will depart under the cover of darkness for Anchorage.

Suluada Island it really is beautiful with gorgeous turquoise waters. The coastline is stunning and we sailed around the island watching the rocks lining the water

Close up of a Dragonfly sitting on a burnt treetop (possibly by lightning), on the background of the setting Sun - Goa, India.

This is a featheredge fence covered in algae, taken with the camera pointing downwards. And then I flipped it vertically. And then, for Sliders Sunday, I played with the colour sliders (Levels adjustment on individual RGB channels - that’s a new one for me :) ).

Well, that’s not exactly all.

It’s also an in-camera multiple exposure using three ICMs, the first two quite blurred, and Darken blend mode. To be honest this bit didn’t make a lot of difference apart from smoothing the lines.

I’ll post a link to the in-camera original for the ME/ICMs in the first comment.

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy 100x and Sliders Sunday!

Another from last year. The background is natural - just the early light falling on golden grass with the butterfly in my shadow and a tweak or two of the exposure.

song: Skyzoo - Civilized Leisure [Feat. MoZaic] (Produced By !llmind)

Background not as aesthetically pleasing but the light was better for an open wing shot.

old bridge down by the mud (mud river) i have taken a lot of pictures from this bridge and now they have blocked it even for walking on. it is wildly warped and probably shouldn't be walked on.

My thanks on line tutor Matt Kloskowski for the lesson on creating one's own textures.

Daisy Nook Country Park

Bur oak with layer of leaves in background.

"Thus, he who owns a veteran bur oak owns more than a tree. He owns a historical library, and a reserve seat in the theater of evolution."

-Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac

This bur oak sits on a ridge overlooking a small small marsh in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

The foundations of the Abbey show the vast size of what the Abbey would have been. In the background, more ruins and the Lady Chapel.

It's been almost two weeks since I last posted a picture of my favorite tree. I think I can come up with another one now.

For everyone who sees it for the first time (which can't be many) the tree stands on the small mount Winter in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

When this photo was made, sunrise was still at least 30-45 minutes away. So I experimented a little to find a slightly different variant of the well-known composition.

The result was a shot from a little further away, so that the structure of the rocky ground and this small heather island also get some attention.

A small positive side effect is that by using a larger focal length (53 instead of the usual 35mm), the mountains in the background are moved a little closer and therefore have more effect.

So I can get used to this variant quite well.

Composite: The background of this photo is an infrared image I took with my Canon Rebel XT using a Canon EFS 17-85 lens. The pose is based on a publicity photo of Lon Chaney for a now lost movie "London After Midnight." The face is mine manipulated in Photoshop. It made a journey through many filters to appear as it is now. I entered a square format version of this in a Halloween contest by BenQ.
