Don't eat its leaves. Don't eat its roots. Don't eat its stems. They are toxic. But, supposedly the "apples", which are not really apples, are edible.
Mayapple is a native perennial wildflower of the moist woods, often found in large colonies in Michigan. They have two large leaves, and a single white flower on nodding stems.

I haven't had a kalanchoe quite like this one. New blooms keep appearing daily. I like using them for macro shots and am having fun experimenting with washi paper backgrounds. I like the way the buds showed up in this pic.

I snuck out this morning while everyone was snoozing in the hotel. Only had a few hours to shoot, but came away with this Rough Legged Hawk jumping off an ugly yellow metal bar. The background was a beautiful mountain covered in snow in the distance. This was my best frame in the sequence. Click for larger view.
I thought and thought about images I have in the Holiday colors and subjects. No Cedar Waxwings with berries - shucks, I haven't even SEEN a Cedar Waxwing this winter. No holly and ivy, all I could think of is my bright Vermilions, just had to find one with a reasonably green background or embellishment. So here he is, wishing everyone a joyous holiday season, and good weather, light and opportunities for the New Year.
Getting the background in the right spot took patience, it's part of the photo, and many times, the most difficult.

Another from last year. The background is natural - just the early light falling on golden grass with the butterfly in my shadow and a tweak or two of the exposure.

The now abandoned factory for sheet and plumb goods was founded in 1857 and is out of operation since 1976. Demolition began 2022.
Spotted this red barn across the field and really liked the contrast of colors here plus the winter fog in the background. Taken in East Swanzey, New Hampshire.

First visit to McMahons Point and Blues Point Reserve , on the shores of Sydney Harbour. A place where you can have the Sydney Harbour Bridge, as the main subject, yet have the Sydney Opera House, in the background.
